@kete @squire @redstarfish Encrypted email is nice, but I find Signal (https://www.signal.org/) to be best (for me) for more private conversations. Is there something that encrypted email can do better, security-wise?

@ndegruchy I second that. Any idea why they didn't make it Free Software? I'm sure DHH and their team have some good reason for it.I haven't used the feature yet, but it is possible to pull one's data out of Basecamp, so that may help alleviate some issues that come with hosted software.

@ndegruchy Is Freedcamp Free Software? If not, I think supporting Basecamp is probably ethically "better" overall because of DHH's stance on various emerging tech/privacy issues, his feelings on corporate growth, the way they treat employees, etc...

@ndegruchy Can you create another account? I have a couple and that seems to work well for me.

@ndegruchy I should also note that I agree with you about Basecamp's free offering being *very* limited. They definitely push the limit on the sacrifices one must make when making ethical choices. The best use case I see for Basecamp is to offer it to corporations and organizations that can afford the $99/month fee as an alternative to Google and other proprietary project management systems. This way, they get the ethical benefits of Basecamp (the company), knowing their data will be safeguarded well and they'll be supporting a company that has realistic and healthy views on growth within a capitalist system, and since they can afford to pay $99/month, Basecamp gets to survive as well. But, yeah, unfortunately, I don't think those of us who can't afford $99/month are their target audience. Please let me know if you come across other similar project management software where the company's ethics match Basecamp's and their pricing is reasonable, say around $10/month for unlimited projects.

@fsf Cool! I have a few questions:Am I correct in noticing that there are only three white men in the photo? Are there any women or people of color involved with the admin side of things for #libreplanet this year? What is the FSF doing to promote more diversity within its organization and the Free Software community in general?

@superruserr When I see things like this, I can't help but wonder whether this is what's best for safety and preventing virus spread or if it's the CDCs way of getting people back to work and getting the economy up and running again. My gut tells me that if people can stay home for the next 6-10 weeks (maybe longer), then that's the best way to stop this virus. I know most can't do this, so that's why governments need to step up to cancel debts, postpone or cancel payments for utilities/rent/mortgage, provide assistance in the form of free food, water, shelter, maybe even free Internet and mobile phone (if they're not already offered) ... that kind of thing. At this point, telling people they'll be fine if they go out with a mask seems like a bandaid that's more helpful for the economy than it is for stopping the virus.

@amolith Sounds fun. I mostly stream coding exercises and things I'm working on and I, too, don't want to rely on Twitch.I tried Jitsi Meet once, but found it to be really lonely since I don't have an audience. At least on Twitch, random people will join and ask questions every now and again.I'd really like to see an alternative to Twitch for programming live streams, a site where I can stream and still have some amount of discoverability.

Does anyone know of any #emacs groups similar to https://archwomen.org, https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Women, https://rladies.org, and https://wiki.ubuntu-women.org/?If one doesn't exist, how can we get something like this started?

@sir You did violate their terms of conduct by using language like this:""EFAIL" is an alarmist puff piece written by morons to slander PGP and inflate their egos." (https://github.com/golang/go/issues/30141#issuecomment-464278183)Also, there are blatantly racist comments associated with this discussion on your Mastodon instance:https://cmpwn.com/@sir/105277076397598051How are you OK with that?!? Your instance should ban kiwifarms.cc. Anything less is to support that racism and be complicit yourself.@nicolagi are you OK with the racist language used in this discussion?
