Nothing kills decent hardware like #windows and #McAfeeAntivirus Someone brought this 4 month old computer to me complaining it was painfully slow and would take a literal 10 minutes to reboot. I assume it was was crap Celeron hardware. But no. It's a Ryzen 7 with 16 gigs of ram. Nixbook installed in about 5 minutes, and now the computer feels like a race horse. Person can't believe this is the same computer. Thank God for #Linux !!

Hmm wondering if anyone can help me with a #linux question.I'm running #nixos with #gnome 48, and even though I disabled automatic updates and notifications in Gnome Software.. still, every day, I get a notification saying "Updates are out of date" (even though when i click on it, it shows no updates)Oddly enough, this is also happening on my project #nixbook , which is cinnamon (but still running gnome software)How can I stop this!?!?!

A couple weeks ago, I took someone's older windows 10 desktop that was taking 10 solid minutes to boot and was painfully slow after that...And converted it to #nixbook #linux This is a non technical woman in her 60s and her equally untechsavvy husband. I followed up with them today to see how its going.YES! Normal people can use #linux

Dream come true yesterday! I got to talk to a packed room of normal (non technical people) at the local library about how important it is to upcycle computers, and how Linux can save the world in this respect. Thanks to all the people who showed up, supported, donated laptops and listened. We even gave away 9 free laptops at the event. Library said it was the most well attended event they've had! We had an event last night at a low income housing community here in Olympia. We brought some Nixbooks, gave them away and showed people how to use them. These people are NOT technical and still all said that Nixbook was far easier to use than any other computer they had used in the past.All these laptops were headed for the scrapyard, but now thanks to Linux are out there changing peoples lives. :)#linux #nixbook #recycling #ewaste

Hard to believe this gorgeous 27" iMac, with a 6 core i5-8500, 16 gigs of ram and a solid state drive was on its way to the dump. Apparently, it's not "good enough" to run the new MacOS, so it was discarded. Thankfully, #linux is here to save the day and make this a perfect computer for someone that will last YEARS into the future. #nixos #nixbook

Whew. Biggest donation to date!15 upcycled Dell Latitudes with 10th gen i7, 16 gigs of ram, and NVMe drives. We partnered with a local program that helps families with Christmas presents, and they always want laptops. This year, The Computer Upcycle Project was able to deliver. Hey #linux nerds. Anyone interested in a #mac pro 2013 trash can?This is an 8 core Xeon with 32 gigs of ram. I got it for free and had a good play. I was never able to get #nixos running on it because the graphics cards are problematic. But it seems to run Linux mint perfectly. I'm happy to simply pass it on for free.
