Getting quite a few people on here who think "ethical" shopping is praxis and that's a bit concerning

@radikalgrafitio @socalledunitedstates @solarpunkagorism There is no correlation between ethical shopping and taking any steps to dismantle the institutions in place that generate ecological collapse and Fascism.

I lost family members in a 30 year conflict because they were innocent Catholic civillians and almost died myself but I guess that just makes me overly sensitive to "being 'racist' to Catholics is good actually" posts on this here web sight eh

Thought Slime's Anarchism Q&A series would be a great idea if he actually knew a thing about Anarchism

@Cyclideon The first thing I remember is that he implicitly dismisses individualist and insurrectionist strains of Anarchism, he also seems to think that different "schools" of Anarchism are mutually exclusive and on a spectrum rather than often-overlapping forms of different ideologies and forms of praxis

Political Nihilism has never achieved anything and offers nothing to anyone. Likewise a "ruthless critique of everything existing" only achieves political inertia and smug satisfaction in armchair theorists as the world around them falls apart. How comfortable it is to criticise everyone else for trying to make the world a better place in which we find it, and how paralysing it must be to be afraid of having the same done to you. If you're not making mistakes you're not making anything.

"What we found in a nationally representative survey of 3,000 American adults was striking. Not only did Americans with lower levels of income and education have fewer technology resources and lower levels of confidence in their ability to protect their digital data, but they also expressed heightened sensitivities about a range of overlapping offline privacy and security harms. This helped to illustrate a critical dimension of digital inequality that is often overlooked; the poor must navigate a matrix of privacy and security vulnerabilities in their daily lives — any of which could dramatically upend their financial, professional or social well-being."https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/25/opinion/privacy-poverty.html

PepsiCo suing Indian farmers for growing Pepsi-patented potato seeds is the perfect summary of why I can't support the proliferation of GMOs under Capitalism

I plan on passing the reins of the cooperative to someone else. I am working 50+ hours a week and my mother is very ill right now, so I simply do not have the time to be here anymore. If anyone would like to take over please let me know. This primarily means having the domain and hosting registered to your own name.I've been thinking about this for the last few months and I believe now would be a good time as things are relatively quiet.

Has anybody seen this maroon flag before? It's in a mixed area in Belfast. Protestant paramilitaries have a habit of putting up Confederate flags and neo-Nazi symbols up in areas with a large amount of Catholics or Muslims so I was wondering if it's something to do with that.:boost_ok:

"It’s strange, isn’t it? The ideology of capitalism is that it is a system that generates immense abundance (so much stuff!). But in reality it is a system that relies on the constant production of scarcity. This conundrum was first noticed back in 1804, and became known as the Lauderdale Paradox. Lauderdale pointed out that the only way to increase “private riches” (basically, GDP) was to reduce what he called “public wealth”, or the commons. To enclose things that were once free so that people have to pay in order to access them. To illustrate, he noted that colonialists would often even burn down trees that produced nuts and fruits so that local inhabitants wouldn’t be able to live off of the natural abundance of the earth, but would be forced to work for wages in order to feed themselves. As I've stated a few weeks ago, I'm currently looking for a replacement to take over ownership of the sunbeam.city domain and our servers. I still haven't found a permanent replacement, which means I will have to shut down the site in due time. My personal circumstances have changed drastically over the last year and I no longer have the resource or energy to invest in SBC. I haven't been able to keep up with the Mastodon community and I've fallen out of sync with recent developments. Sunbeam City deserves better than an absentee admin and I can not in good conscience keep the place running without stronger participation. If any of our longer term users would be happy to take on this responsibility get in touch with me, otherwise over the next few weeks I will be starting the process of shutting the site and co-op down over the next few weeks, beginning with a cooperative proposal on what to do with our excess funds.

My job in the LGBTQIA+ sector recently came to a sudden halt because funding was dropped. This is difficult because I was transitioning at work socially--it was the olny workplace in which I felt comfortable doing so. I've went back to my old job as an out and open trans woman and the reception has been mixed. If anyone knows of any jobs focused on working with women and/or LGBTQIA+ people, based in Europe (inc. the UK), please let me know. I have experience with working in homelesssness, harm reduction, policy research and advocacy.Thank you.
