@ceo_of_monoeye_dating @roboneko @ai @MK2boogaloo @Elliptica @SuperSnekFriend @jeffcliffi'm only in my 2nd year of undergraduate studies, so this isn't super salient—plus, purdue has never crossed my mind.moreover, a career in mathematics per se isn't what i'm headed toward regardless—if i do end up in grad school v. just private sector work, it'll be in some sort of applied logics, PLs, type theory, etc. and very likely outside the US—the college i'm attending right now is... unpleasant, and I trace a lot of the reasons for that to *some* of the same cultural factors you point to in the rest of the thread, though there are other contributing circumstances—and this is at a respected institution. i shudder to think how much worse things will get, even in the next couple years.actually thinking through the possibility of studying abroad for a bit rn, we'll see. but, yeah. not too many immediate choices for me to make rn aside from my courses for next semester (required abstract algebra, a required analysis course, and a topics course in information theory and probability applied to learning theory, i think.... on the maths front).regardless im doing my best to avoid being dragged down in The Decline. wish i had better mentorship/oversight in that regard—and i appreciate this being pointed out/appreciate you thinking of me, even if its not super immediate rn. i think ill be okay.and—yeah, i'm not around, just logged in to respond to this since i was told you were looking for me. you can get in touch with me on matrix (ask errante for my info) if you'd like to share anything in the future.im gonna go back to nervously awaiting replies to internship applications with a three-year hole in my cv since i last worked . - .
