The whole point of crypto-proponents is that everyone and everything will be assimilated to "the Borg" authoritarian structure that is The Ledger and The Consensus, and squeeze out everything else. This is not democratization of the internet.

If you made it this far, thanks. The rant is over.If you made money on crypto, or were at one point a fan of it, or played with it, none of this is to slight you, or any single person. I don't think of (current or past) crypto proponents any less.I do think it an ideology masquerading as something it is not, and that is what's dangerous. It is important to see it for what it is, not what we wish it to be.

@lanodan Yes, the whole medical system in the USA has a ton of problems, but that can get political quickly. I hope it's no surprise that I was hoping to steer clear of specific country politics when ranting.

@raphael You might rest easier: as I outlined in my motivation, it was people invading unrelated domains/groups wanting to insert ledgers and chains into it, promising it as the way of some bigger future.I keep that distinct from barter/trade/transact. I don't care there b/c it can be through a bank account, tokens on a chain, high-end art sales, gold/silver/metals, beanie babies, etc.To me, the above is categorically different than trying to "replace institutions", where maybe we disagree.

@raphael Sure, the ethereum devs have their own reasons. Much like I have my own reasons to develop a more user-respecting network "alternative".My bubble is seeing all sorts of different communities I'm a part of be invaded by all sorts of different followers all with similar messages. So the distorted picture I see is quite removed from ethereum devs personal motivations. 🤷 (You could view this rant as a vain push back to reduce the destruction in the wave's wake so it settles in a modest place)

@dsfgs @mystik Unfortunately this instance blocked Mystiks reply but I found it online.My criticism is levied at NFTs, smart contracts (the contract is non fungible, and additionally executable), and yes just "fungible coins" all together taken as a whole "future society". You can see in a parallel discussion that i have no problems with fungible coins *alone*. Trade in beanie babies or gold if you want, I don't care.

@cryptoduke that is more than a potassium iodide pill, it also contains elemental iodine. Such a tincture is usually used in water purification.I'm not a doctor, so i can only read the label and say "not the same, as it has more other stuff in it". I'm not giving medical advice.I also wouldn't fear. I needed these anyway from the government due to living near a nuclear power plant. I just hadn't and today seemed like a good time to do so.

Everyone talks about "Germany", "natural gas" and war, but the way I put it together differently puts me at odds with a lot of other people. The natural gas problem isn't about heating -- this was a pre-existing problemThe problem was deeply embedding natural gas power generation into the EU grid's stability. That came about due to Germany's aggressive and rapid push for renewables: the duck-curve requires *dispatchable* powerIMHO this is a geopolitical war of "going green"

I am *for* going green and I am *for* renewables.But a fair criticism is that the *new* dependence of dispatchable natural gas power on the EU grid means that cutting off natural gas means: instead of having "guaranteed" electricity for old fashioned heating remedies like hot bottles, you now have the prospect of EU rolling blackouts / brownouts on top of no heat. Very dangerous for vulnerable people. Also, "but the economy" for the EU wealthy.Hence, outcomes like "no SWIFT".

BTW, for our personal family planning, this was the top reasoning my wife wished to remain outside the US and to have access to non-US based maternity healthcare. We do not want to be in a situation where my wife faces her own death or being handcuffed to a hospital bed after facing medical trauma.
