Another thing: congrats @wingo for the well-deserved laurels!! 🎉We’re often not at ease with recognition in our groups but surely some kind of recognition is necessary both for the recipient and for bystanders: to show that we’re humans who can stop for a second and show appreciation. Thanks for all your work.

I’ve been helping a bit the Guix release team (Rutherther, @baleine et al.) and it’s so good to see the “new generation” challenging and improving release processes as they go!

Linux vsock(7) sockets (which look(ed) like a nice feature) turn out to live in the global namespace, and—guess what!—that leads to bad surprises:https://seclists.org/oss-sec/2025/q4/298🤦

Anyone knows how to contact the fine people behind notabug.org?There’s quite a few Guix/Guile-adjacent projects there that we should probably migrate to Codeberg, but we can’t do that properly without their help (adding Codeberg IPs to an allow-list on their side would be enough).#NotABug #Codeberg

I wonder if Guix should publish a statement on generative AI.The statement would acknowledge what I and many view as a fundamental mismatch between genAI and an empowering and humanist project, and it could provide guidelines for the project’s attitude towards genAI.

@khinsen Here we are: I now get AI slop when browsing the ACM Digital Library from my academic institution’s network. The FAQ says that “no explicit opt-out feature is enabled”:https://dl.acm.org/generative-ai/summarizations

“A Fully Reproducible C Toolchain Rooted on POSIX Shell”, master thesis by Laurent Huberdeau:https://github.com/udem-dlteam/pnut/blob/main/doc/thesis.pdfInteresting take on #bootstrapping, using POSIX shell as a base layer “taken for granted”.I have my doubts on the argument of “readable shell code”:https://toot.aquilenet.fr/@civodul/113347210396165287… but it remains pretty cool.(Seen on the #bootstrapping IRC channel.)

Re take-away of https://scicomm.xyz/@ReproducibiliTeaGlobal/115932392591975656 I think we, people working on making reproducible computational environments, need to work on the messaging so it’s not considered “optional”—source code without a way to run it isn’t really strengthening reproducible research.I guess the goal was to suggest a gradation in terms of the effort needed (which is true!). Still, suggesting that computational reproducibility is “optional” could be counterproductive.

Insightful closing remarks at #SWH2026.Canela de Souza Godoi of UNESCO insists we should fight the narrative that “innovation” cannot go hand in hand with protecting human rights.@HenriVerdier starts by noting that “The Tragedy of the Commons”, mentioned before, is capitalist propaganda that one should probably not cite seriously. :-)

What a day! Those Guix Days were awesome and insightful, as always.Cherry on the cake: this night, I saw a Framework laptop running Guix System boot in 17 minutes (seventeen minutes), I went through a reverse job interview (successfully, but I almost failed), and I added a committer to the Shepherd repo (expect cool things).
