What's a good tool for searching your man pages? (whatis and apropos are not cutting it)

@hyc `man -k sockaddr` only finds a perl page, for instance, so I'm not sure what's going on. But yeah, just grep'ing the man directory works

We got the conclusion to jemalloc. Jason Evans has written a post mortem: https://jasone.github.io/2025/06/12/jemalloc-postmortem/

@bsdphk Nice read. It reminds me Bonwick's Slab allocator also placed debugging and error detection front and center.

@whitequark yeah, I knew this. I … try not to think too much about it. The mail part is why the format has uh, opinions about line lengths.

@whitequark but imagine if we did… if we took a look at laserdisc and were like “yeah, this is on the right track.” LD (aka. DiscoVision!) is analog, though, but CD is digital and encode 650 MiB in a 5.38km track. We’ll need 69430km for 8 TiB. With the 1.6um CD pitch, the spiral area jumps from 86.05 cm^2, to roughly 111.1 m^2, which is close to one fifth the wing surface area of a Boeing 747-400, or half of a singles tennis court, or 1.6 times the surface area of a human lung.
