@sickburnbro Even if this were a real video (who the fuck is harvesting carrots from a winter wheat field in the middle of January?), this guy agreed to finance everything for the prospect of marginally higher profits. For practically every farm over a certain size, their margins get eaten for lunch because some boomer at some point in time signed on a dotted line somewhere in the name of convenience. They all at some point agreed to sell their crop to a faceless market collective that they don't control at prices set by global supply chains, not understanding the concept of arbitrage and how global market undercut local production at the whim of commodity traders who absolutely collude on pricing. The boomer farmers of old also passed the debt practice of financing every operational cost on to their kids who are too dumb to look at the mechanics of how their livelihood is managed for them and now they're all stuck in this debt cycle as global serfs because there is no sustainable market in the region for locally grown produce.

@sickburnbro Ag Co-Ops and commodities future trading in theory are a great idea, however, that idea goes to shit once you decouple the product from the market and it becomes just another financial product to be manipulated on spreadsheets against markets that don't play by the same rules.

@deprecated_ii Shit, I had a doctor at the VA clinic write me a prescription for 5k IU dose 8x a day back in ~2012. She straight up said the gov't standards are way off and it would help catch up with the poor nutrition I had been getting in the Navy.

@sickburnbro The bees are nuts, but the even crazier part is the water. The almond farmer COOPs spent like $50b back in 2012 to build a pair of 24 foot wide tunnels all the way from the central valley up to the Sacramento River delta to make up for the future loss of the aquifers they're pumping dry. The farmers up north, like the almond farmers, had enough money to hire lawyers to stop this, as the amount of water they would divert would change the ecology of the entire wetland region of the Sacramento River Delta (which is the most conservative part of the state). Big legal struggle is still going on over it. It's very Californian, but interesting to be able to watch it all happen. https://stopthetunnels.org if you want to read more about it, but the amount of money that almonds bring into the state is pretty insane that they could still be pushing this to happen.
