I've been using the same computer desk at home for 28 years. My mom bought it for me when I was in my teens. She wanted me to have a nice, office grade desk I could use in any configuration room.My kids are playing D&D with their friends right now, and probably have all kinds of magic items. In the real world, items can be magic because of who they're connected to, even if it's just a grey office desk.

This illustrates the ongoing need for online anonymity. In a world where no good deed goes unlitigated, truth-tellers need to be proactive to defend themselves.https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/2023/8/9/23825966/francesca-gino-honesty-research-scientific-fraud-defamation-harvard-university

PC tech hive mind: it's been a long time since I cloned a disk. What's the easiest way to clone a drive from a Windows box?

Raise your hand if you often re-type whole lines rather than correct them because it feels less fiddley.

@lowqualityfacts Ok, so my daughter in grade school was so good at stealing the basketball, she would apologize to kids as she did it because she knew how demoralizing it was to them to keep getting the ball stolen over and over. She genuinely felt empathy for these kids, but we had to tell her not to apologize, that made them feel worse.

I want to point out something about scattered spider that was in the Microsoft report, and almost a throwaway indicator that's easy to miss. It's not in the FBI/CISA brief, and it's this:Azure password reset portals allow for SMS or voice call. They're linked together. You can't turn one or the other off.Threat actors don't need to hit the higher bar of SIM swapping, which is also more easily detected by the victim, they just need to SE your carrier to enable call forwarding. Every carrier is lax AF on this and only ask for knowledge authenticators.https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/blog/2023/10/25/octo-tempest-crosses-boundaries-to-facilitate-extortion-encryption-and-destruction/
