I tried to cut the tip of my finger off today while pruning grape vines.Tragedy was averted with medical grade super glue and some tiny bandaids. And thank goodness I can still flip the bird!

If you're a young developer at Apple you have no idea how hard this feedback hits.So many of your points-of-view change after the first death in the immediate family. That's not likely to happen until your fifties or sixties. The memorials on our devices are important: I have a weekly reminder to “Check in on mom” that will never be removed because it has a whole new purpose since her death.https://mastodon.social/@agiletortoise/112718541856786929

Meanwhile Apple Music on my Apple Watch can’t remember what it was playing when it gets kicked out of memory. Which happens every day with every workout. It’s never going to happen, but our industry would be much better served by making basic things work really well instead of constant, and often half-assed, innovation. https://mastodon.online/@9to5Mac/112807798133371559

Another week, another letter telling me about a “privacy event” (aka data breach). Here's a simple way to fix this problem: legislation that says every customer who's affected gets a check for $100. No more of this check-your-credit weak sauce - instead, a real cost to the business. If you have data on 100 million customers, paying out $10 BILLION is a hell of an incentive to keep your fucking data protected.Or better yet, maybe it's not worth $100 to store it in the first place…

If it takes 10,000 hours to achieve expertise in a skill, you can cut that down to 20,000 hours with the help of AI.

Electron bloat is not limited to download and memory sizes.Half of my Application Support folder size is from hundreds of "cache" files that haven't been modified in the past two years.

Google is poisoning its own well. The only question is if they will come to their senses before it’s too late. https://www.tumblr.com/meanya/772241929278767104/please-dont-call-any-phone-number-recommended-by

About 10% of Apple's $3T market cap got wiped out today. That $1M inauguration investment currently has a return of -$300B.

As you look at your 401K in shambles, keep in mind that someone in this administration made an “investment" that earned 2,100% _in one hour_.If you knew what they knew, you could have made $2.1M from $100K today. Or if you're an asshole billionaire, a lot more.Good luck investigating this insider trading. Guess which branch of government is in charge of monitoring this illegal behavior?

If you're reading GoComics in Tapestry, you might have noticed there are problems loading since April 1st.It's not a bad joke - it’s a major site redesign that caused things to stop working. The beauty of connectors is that they can easily adapt to the web’s inevitable change. We've updated the GoComics connector for the next release, but you can get an updated version now from our website:https://files.iconfactory.net/downloads/connectors/com.gocomics.tapestryEnjoy!

Along those same lines, The Verge recently updated it's RSS feed and it’s a piece of work. For example, a single curly quote is represented as `’` and gets displayed as "’".(Astute readers will recognize that as 0xE2 0x80 0x99 rendered as HTML entities, not as a UTF-8 byte sequence for ’)I got tired of looking at this junk, so I wrote a “The Verge (Unf*cked)" connector:https://github.com/chockenberry/TapestryConnectors/releasesAnd if you work at The Verge: get your shit together.

@stroughtonsmith No H with the F though! When I heard the crackling noises and went to pull the AC plug, the OS was still running. The floppy drive felt slower than normal so maybe it was the point of failure? Wanted to open it up anyway, so now I have an excuse 😀
