@stux Good to be back. Also, thanks for hosting mstdn.social 👏 It was around when I left and I'm glad to see it's still here.

@stux It was still crazy to me that we could see the booster and capsule through their whole trajectory. (Same with the Virgin launch) I'm used to watching "rocket goes up and disappears".

@stux I wonder if the seats are pulled out by the parachutes or if they're jettisoned. 🤔 If they're pulled out, that could be intentional: if the blades are still present, the chute lines are ripped up, and you get to ride it down rather than being chopped up.

@stux Ah a quick search (which I probably should have done before 😬) seems to indicate they can be rocket seats. At least helos can autorotate to slow decent so if you're to the ejection point there's not many other options.

Let's see if we can ensure that it can reach the 3 year anniversary! I'll match each donation to mstdn.social made in the next five days until we reach a total of €4,000. I think that should mean that stux can cover the server costs for another year.@stux can you share the links where people can donate?Folks, post or DM me screenshots or links to your contributions and I'll match it in Ether. If you sign up for a monthly contribution somewhere, I'll match it for the year.

@tek The duration part was interesting: If there's a law restricting "in perpetuity" this agreement is then in effect until "21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, king of England living as of the date of this declaration". While technically not "forever", would be a very long time. It'd be fun to see other examples of things that aren't technically forever in legal agreements.

I use a searx instance for aggregated search results, privacy was a secondary concern for me. However I just typed in Firefox Developer Edition's omnibar and got this sponsored result. Noooope! (Setting I found to turn off in the second screenshot for those curious)

I'm a big fan of iterating quickly like Tesla and Rivian are doing. I got a new update on my car the other day and it had a ton of UX improvements. Meanwhile my other car from 2013, I could go to the dealer and pay them for the privilege of having updated maps data; and forget about them fixing a bug in the menu navigation that borks the display for the day if you hit the magic sequence.https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/17/23920632/rivian-ota-software-update-2023-38-drive-mode-towing-improvements

I made a printable #hamradio logbook template, and am going to print it on some "Write in the Rain" printer paper. Will give it a try on my next POTA outing.Check it out: https://futurama.io/standalone/templates/hamlogbook.html

@aral It appears (in V8 at least) that there are two limits: one for the aggregate amount of space that all RegExps can take up on the heap of an isolate (https://github.com/v8/v8/blob/main/src/regexp/regexp.cc#L940-L955) and another for the size/depth when parsing. The former _seems_ to be 1MB for compiled and the latter at least has a test which fails at 20,000 "[1]"s but my quick looking didn't reveal a hard'n'fast limit (https://github.com/v8/v8/blob/main/test/mjsunit/regress/regress-1255368.js) I'm no v8 expert though, these may be useful pointers for where to dig
