last boost reminded me of the time i was in hong kong at some vego restaurant,and i'm done, and i go up to the cashier, and she starts talking to me in gwailo, so i figure i'll make half the distance and reply in mando, chat about how there's a sister restaurant in my home town,and while she's working the till or something, one of the cooks staggers out from the kitchen, stops beside the cashier, looks me up and down, and then barks to her in canto"IS THAT A MAN OR A WOMAN"and oh my god, the cashier. you've never seen embarrassment like that before.she's trying to shush her up, whisper-screaming "THEY SPEAK CHINESE, D-DON'T,",cook barks back "EH?"and so i finally go the distance and reply in canto "i dunno. what do you think?"and she just looks at me again, grunts, and continues on!(perfect interaction imo)
