@ruud @JeanPhilippe @Gargron @stux @trumpet I'd assume the GDPR and the DSA would apply, but yeah getting legal advice from a professional who knows the details of your locale is a clear, prudent move.

@stux I haven't caught up with Picard yet, although I loved TNG growing up.I just finished Strange New Worlds, which was fantastic and really feels authentic to the original 60's show. Lower Decks is great also, very different in tone with everything else since it's mostly a comedy, but a ton of fun.

@stux Reminded of the incident where huge swaths of private user GPS data was leaked from Parler because the platform never bothered to strip the EXIF data when users uploaded photos. The trend seems to be that no one making these sites is competent enough to code properly and/or they won't pay someone to do the job correctly.

@stux Point 1. The "Security through Obscurity" model is only effective until your code gets leaked. A bit like sitting on a time bomb with a variable amount of semtex. Of course as many have pointed out now, the Darwin kernel was developed as open source, and as it was BSD-based was of course, secure. So I think we can put this to the side.Point 2, yes of course, agreed. But this is also true of any Windows system properly deployed with UAC enabled and admin accounts not used by default.

@stux Certainly, but that's the model that you want most general users to adopt as it comes with no financial nor legal liabilities. If someone's Discord server gets a DMCA complaint then that goes to Discord's copyright agent, instead of the "owner" of the server being personally liable. Which is something that a *LOT* more people running personal Mastodon servers need to be aware of.

@stux Billionaires and their billionaire corporations also use philanthropy as a tool to whitewash their public image, as a way of distracting the public from the ways they exploit their workers and the environment. It's something that started in the robber-baron industrial age, and continued to this day. For modern examples, look at the majority sponsors of Mr. Beast's content.

@stux Only Elmo could take this time to not only be a derogatory ableist ass, but also to fire the people that he *absolutely could not afford to fire*.

@stux I think your argument is probably not with communism or other leftist theory of economics, but with authoritarianism. The pure Right vs Left debate is really about who owns means of production, private individuals or collective public entities? Those that exploit wealth and power love capitalism because both automatically go to them. But if the people own the production, then the only way to exploit wealth and power is for governments to have totalitarian, unjust control.

@stux In the case that you've never heard of nor played Stray... fix that immediately. :blobcatfingerguns: If you're looking to make more cat-centric games, I doubt anyone will complain.

@stux If you hire a photographer that knows what they're doing, they'll give you a contract first telling you exactly what you're buying. *Usually* those contracts will include digital copies as well as some kind of packaged print offering. A prints-only offering would be... unusual these days.As you said, no photographer worth their salt will ever give you their RAW files if they have any respect for their own copyright.

@stux This has certainly always been true, but definitely not always a bad thing. One of the binds Twitter is in now is the fact that most of their infrastructure is on-prem. They have a massive data center footprint with no easy way to migrate or offload it, so any outages are 99.99% their responsibility. Or more specifically the responsibility of their overworked, stretched thin, cut-to-the-bone support staff.
