This is a massive social problem that urgently needs addressing, but it's not helpful to elide this with mental health. The fascistic solutions you propose would be a massive overreach of state power.And would not work. You could certainly succeed in demonizing mentally ill people and reducing their rights and perhaps even start a moral panic, but you don't have the power to impose this on your supposed targets, something I think you actually know. So as the only possible outcome of this won't help stop fascism but could help its advance, perhaps we could pivot to something that isn't a moral outrage and work on building solidarity? Instead of setting it on fire?

In other news, an orthodox guy this morning said I could start wearing teffilin straight away without waiting for a beit din. I feel like there's a reason my sponsoring rabbi has not suggested this.Related because I never know when I'm veering out of my lane with participating too soon or what.

This is not nice. A terfy screed in which the author claims to have trans friends and complains about the tone of the people who she seeks to deny the right to use a public toilet. (Because needing to use the toilet while out and about or at work or at school is an optional luxury. I'm trying to write a letter, but it's not going well.Ideas I have scrapped: Next time, instead of hiring to cis writers to debate the humanity of trans people, perhapos one of Lampert's many trans friends can explain why they shouldn't have access to public toilets. They should have loads of free time for this, since they are only able to venture forth from their homes for short periods.

In the end, the most important thing is not how good my letter is, but that they get letters. I hope you also decide to write, even if it's just a short "this is not for publication, but I'm very unhappy you did this to trans people" would be helpful.

The cynically "benevolent transphobia" piece contains many factual errors. I do not have the capacity to do a close reading of it, but the author has been on the terf beat for a while and surely knows her timeline, for example, is decades off. She's picked her distortions for purpose of persuasion. I don't think she's concerned with truth-values at all. For those of us who are sometimes public writers, I think there are a few lessons here. The trans ally editorial is actively good and I'm glad to have the author as an ally, but I feel like it's almost always better for somebody who is actually trans to get the column in a national newspaper about trans issues. If you're asked to write as an ally, ask why they can't get somebody who is actually in the group.

The other lesson - especially for allies - is that it's not a good idea to participate in a debate about somebody else's humanity. If they have a good reason for why they want you to write the thing, ask about context. What are they pairing it with, if anything?For people who are members of the effected group, I honestly don't know if it's better to refuse or not. IF they're intent on having "both sides" I think I would refuse.

The second amendment was legalising conscripted patrols on which white men of ever social class in southern states were made to go out in armed groups looking for escaped enslaved people to capture. @Npars01 @GottaLaff I understand that there are nearly dozens of people in the world who don't live in north america. CWing politics by country allows that tiny minority of non-US people greater usability of the software, costs you nothing, and is no way collaborating with your out-of-control corporations. I imagine that if half your timeline was posts about horse racing in New Zealand, you might also start to wonder if perhaps a subject header indicating the contents might be called for.I mean, you read this, right?
