spending more time on centralized social media lately because i've been feeling pretty isolated over here. people don't talk to me much on fedi and i'm sure there are reasons for that, but it gets tiring and i start to feel like it just isn't worth it. it's become mostly a passive consumption tool to me in the same way as the others.

some of this i think i brought on myself by self-hosting, discoverability of new people to talk to just doesn't really happen as easily and i havent put in the effort to counteract that effect

@pea yeah! my partner had shown me years earlier that i wasnt using enough salt, but the book definitely got us to put more thought into types of salt and timing of salting in the cooking process, and got me using even more salt

@KitRedgrave it's interesting to have seen a bit inside the world of automotive software. it's been more of a proper engineering discipline there for a while, in some ways, with coding standards and so on. because these are necessary when unconstrained failure is unacceptable. i don't think they will much propagate outwards to the rest of the field because without comparable liability, there is little reason to do things in this way
