OpenAI’s CFO backtracking on saying the government should bail them out by guaranteeing loans for the $1.4T in spend they’ve committed has only increased industry-wide skepticism that they can come up with the money. https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/06/tech/openai-backtracks-government-support-chip-investments?Date=20251107&Profile=cnn&utm_content=1762474270&utm_medium=social&utm_source=threads

Low information voters fucking around and electing a government full of people who don’t know how anything works would have been entertaining if we weren’t finding out along with them.

Grand opening, grand closing. X quietly disabled a new feature that showed which country an account was posting from when it revealed that lots of popular right wing MAGA accounts were being run from foreign countries like India and Nigeria.

It’s been interesting to realize that many industry trends, regardless of industry, are the adult equivalent of everyone cheating off of the smart kid’s homework. And the main question is if we chose the right smart kid.

MTG becoming a voice of reason explaining to Republicans that they let themselves get screwed by billionaires in exchange for racist policies wasn’t in my bingo card. That said, she’s just an opportunist who can feel which way the wind is blowing.

A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?https://www.businessinsider.com/executives-adopting-ai-higher-rates-than-workers-research-2025-10

Imagine working a 36 hour shift to deliver a chatbot that says Elon Musk is fitter than LeBron and can swim better than Michael Phelps then jumping online to brag about it.Batman couldn’t beat this out of me.

Democrats really scored an own goal with the TikTok ban. The company has gone from being owned by China to being owned by China and Trump allies. If the concern was TikTok pushing problematic politics, Dems are actually worse off. https://www.techdirt.com/2025/12/19/tiktok-deal-done-and-its-somehow-the-shittiest-possible-outcome-making-everything-worse/

60% of U.S. adults reported that societal division is a significant source of stress in their lives, 54% said they felt isolated, left out (50%) or lack companionship (50%) often or some of the time.I don’t see any fixes on the horizon. The internet connected us but instead of creating empathy it just exposed how much we disagree with half the country.https://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2025/11/nation-suffering-division-loneliness

On the bright side; now that we’ve hit the Republican president trifecta of creating a recession, significantly growing the national debt and plunging us in a new endless war for oil, the the next administration being Democrats is a shoo-in.

Casey Newton followed up on the viral “Desperation Score” food delivery hoax. He got in touch with the original Reddit poster who shared an Uber Eats ID and an 18-page document about the alleged internal workings at Uber Eats. Both turned out to be AI generated. This is trolling in the age of LLMs. https://www.platformer.news/fake-uber-eats-whisleblower-hoax-debunked/?media_id=3803745319989638545_63247015229&media_author_id=63247015229&ranking_info_token=GCA2N2YyZWFmYjBmOWM0OGM0OWU5ZTU1Y2YxNjU0NGJhOCX+m9YDJo6c45UNGBMzODAzNzQ1MzE5OTg5NjM4NTQ1KAN2bGwA&utm_source=ig_text_post_permalink

I post about tech news, AI and politics on 3 platforms. Here’s what I’ve seen.1. Threads (38K followers). Lots of engagement on shitposts and politics. Much less on tech topics. But varies wildly from 10K to 1K to 10 likes. Lukewarm to AI.2. Bluesky (47K followers) More consistent engagement with politics being most viral. Dislikes AI.3. Mastodon (18K followers): Least engagement with tech topics getting the most replies & likes. Hates AI and lukewarm to politics.

I was talking to a developer recently about how vibe coding and AI agents make the entire team more productive. He shrugged and said he’s more excited about vibe debugging. Asking the AI agent, “Should feature X be showing up here? If so, why isn’t it?” is the game changer. At that point, I felt enlightened.

Jaana was a distinguished engineer at GitHub and is now a principal engineer at Google. I expect to see more testimonials from accomplished software engineers in 2026 about how AI agents are making them more productive.Engineers posting about how AI tools don’t work will increasingly look like a skill issue than a problem with AI tools.
