@AnnieBuddy @anneapplebaum If you're referring to the videos of middle-schoolers in Crimea stripping and re-assembling rifles, this is a throwback to something they did in schools in the USSR. The kids aren't being conscripted, *only* brainwashed with militarism.

@ahmetasabanci @zub @pluralistic I have a kindle and they do not make it easy to load up non-Amazon content, but once you know how to do it it's pretty convenient. One of the easiest ways is to email yourself PDFs or e-books that you have purchased or created outside of Amazon. Just send an email to the custom kindle address with the file attached. Google can tell you how to find out your email - you can also create a custom kindle email link for yourself via a link on Amazon.

@aserraric @ahmetasabanci @zub @pluralistic 90% of what I read on the kindle are free library books from the Libby app. I'd have to research how that works with calibre. I used to have to use a wired USB transfer with my old e-reader and I found it to be a hassle.Right now, it's a process where I check out the book with Libby, then the app opens an Amazon pop-up window, logs me in and "send to device" the free book.I'm trading Amazon surveillance for convenience, even at the library.

@tante You don't say! They have the best and brightest on this.- Bluesky is a Twitter-led initiative to democratize social media.- Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is a fan of Bitcoin.- Twitter has relied on cryptocurrency developers to provide direction for the project.- In August 2021, it was announced that Jay Graber, formerly a Zcash developer, would be helming the Bluesky team and its initiatives going forward.
