@_intothevoid Please pay farm animal pictures if you can. We've got Caturday but I miss Jeff Minter's sheep in my feed from the other place.

@bortzmeyer Missed opportunity to have the sequence GATTACA in the stock image in the header there.

@foone This seems to have been IBM’s approach to their 4694 Point of Sale hardware. My employer’s tills came with Cyrix 486s for years after Intel had discontinued them.

@foone Looking at that screen makes me feel really strange. Is this... nostalgia?

@foone b"hello world" is &[u8; 11], so you can assign *b"hello world" to a fixed-length array.Otherwise, you'll probably use copy_from_slice() which will be optimised to something very similar anyway.

@strypey It sounds like you're describing MPEG-DASH, which is used by YouTube, Netflix, and many others. As I understand it, the video, audio and WebVTT subtitle tracks are split up into separate small downloads, listed in an M3U file, which the player downloads one at a time as needed. YouTube uses this to only load subtitles as needed, or to stop playing video sometimes when the app or tab is minimised.https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc8216It is, of course, patented.

@foone I think we could do this in IPv6 using the Differentiated Services field in the packet header. I recommend using a value of 010111b, or ^W, to indicate that the packet is being used to transmit part of a stream of “woke” data.

@strypey @norightturnnz Are government committees like this bound by the FOIA? If so, how long could they stall before having to release the prompt they’re using?

@0xabad1dea I didn't get the immediate AI summary; instead I got a list of the wrong time in four cities in New York state, and a link to https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/usa/new-york-state.

@strypey @Codeberg It's not exactly random; that's a version of a character used by AMD in Japan. My charitable guess would be a bug that assigned someone's avatar upload to the wrong profile, which is concerning but not necessarily an indication of a compromise. If the Last-Modified timestamp on the image at https://codeberg.org/avatars/ce29dbcbd831e1fcf30a7aef6f3aaa868ffcba41fdf7331e73a2f77b43495ab3 is correct, it was only uploaded at 9:55 this morning, NZ time.
