It was frosty yesterday when we walked a narrow trail in the bush. I narrowly missed this little beauty of a Garter Snake. She had been hiding her head under a leaf and was too cold to move. Took her a while to slither all of her ~80 cm off the path. Time to hibernate, I told her.#snake #NaturePhotography

It looked like algae growing on a wet log. Moving closer it resembled a slime mold π§ . On the computer screen it turned out to be a rather pretty fungus: Trichoderma gelatinosum. They are widely studied for uses in agriculture, medicine, and industries, I learned.#fungi #macro #MacroPhotography

This morning I knew this chrysalis was about to be ready. Went for an hour for a walk, came back, and there is a new Monarch π¦ π. Still has to let the wings dry and unfold. Always in wonder how this large butterfly fits into the small bag.#butterfly #Monarch #nature

A thin layer of snow showed who else is walking the same trail: lots of mice, a snowshoe hare, several ruffed grouse, a fisher, fox and last not least a wolf. For lack of a measuring tape, my boot for comparison: the paw was 11 cm long.#tracking #wildlife #winter
