@ErikUden plant-based heisst eigentlich keine tierischen Produkte, also veganes essen. Noch nie eine andere Interpretation in der Praxis gesehen. Wird verwendet weil “vegan” oft eine negative Konnotation hat bei der weiteren Gesellschaft.

@mekkaokereke @Badgardener @thisismissem I think it’s more about finding a good revenue model that does not compromise the longer term viability of building an open network vs. people being anti getting paid. There are successful examples of this being done with donations as the main revenue source, such as Wikipedia.I am not sure how other revenue models can generate significant revenue without excluding people who can’t pay? Do you have examples?

He is right the most people don't care about the protocol. What gets me most is that he is still insisting that Bluesky has somehow solved the problem of building a truely decentralized and federated social media network AND solved some of the inalienable trade-offs that this brings to user experience. Let's be clear: they have not. If they would allow true decentralization and fedration, Bluesky would face the same challenges with discoverability, onboarding, etc. as Mastodon does.

Bluesky Social, PBC, the company behind Bluesky, is literally running all of the god damn network. Direct Messages are not even part of the ATProto. Their Decentralized Identifiers are resolved centrally by Bluesky. There is only one real Relay, there's only one real AppView. They even bought out the developer of the only real alternative mobile app frontend, DarkSky.Nobody except Bluesky has a say in how ATProto is developed. They could close it down tomorrow. #bluesky
