@blacklight I would love to host my own DNS through either ADDS or Bind on OpenSUSE, but I feel sort of stuck with CloudFlare because my ISP either blocks port 53 or charges me up the wazoo for business internet. I think you told me that the Netherlands ISPs don't give much of a dang as long as customers aren't spreading malware,right? What about Italy?

@blacklight You must be allowed to have port 25 open to host mail, right? Either that, or isn't the other port 587? Both are blocked over here,so I'm not able to put my mail on my home network. I might consider switching to something other than Office 365 if I end up with a unit in a datacenter again. That won't be for a bit,though.

@blacklight That's actually pretty awesome. I never understood why just because an email server was running off of a residential IP, it's automatically blocked. That's rather unfair to the nerds. Nerds should be able to do whatever we want, because if a mail server is running,chances are, the person running it knows what they're doing.

@blacklight @FourOh-LLC Ah. I remember some of those; not only router-based malware, but a few cleverly constructed worms also had their own mail servers, if not mail transfer agents. Axam is one that comes to the top of my head.

@blacklight That actually sounds really cool, though the non technical folks still might have some issues with that many subdomains to remember. I know my parents would probably throw their hands up in frustration after about five minutes of trying to remember which subdomain pointed to where.

@Faylen @SJHoodlet There is nothing prettier in the cat department than one of jet black. They are so beautiful, majestic, and there's just something incredible about them that words can't express. All cats possess a magic of their own, but it's more prominent for blacks, I have noticed.

@blacklight I'm not defending them, certainly not,but I wonder if a lot of people don't have a method of thinking outside of the box? I have a friend, for instance, and the only way his company makes money off of his open source project is by selling hosting for it. People buy it.

@blacklight My friend also doesn't balk if he doesn't get money because someone wants to manage their own hosting. And that's why this is odd; these business who already have tons of money, are acting as if they don't have a dime to their name.

@blacklight One of my friend's main reasons for owning a business in the first place is so that he can own a full rack of servers for himself and his friends to play with. So profit is actually rather secondary to him. good point. Regardless of anything, I would never fund anything via venture capital. I baught the book about the metaverse by Matthew Ball, and honestly I'm regretting buying that book, because that dude's a venture capitalist. Not that I have a problem with people making enough money to feel comfortable. I live in a relatively small condo. I have a feeling that even if I came into a million or more dollars, I'd not trade this little home for anything.
