@tbn97 It's really sad with youtube android app..Like, I hate it but I also feel pity for how hard they are trying.Everytime I watch one of them shorts it's like "pwease scwoww I wanna be tiktok uwu".But the main aspect of "Tiktokification" is the death of sorting.E.g. whenever I follow a link to Twitter, or reddit on mobile, or just shopping; it's just.. you just can't tell what's coming when from where, and every other day a new sorting feature is ded n gone.

I can't get over the fact that Zig is the only language I know of that got multiline strings right:const payload = \\{ \\ "vals": { \\ "testing": 1, \\ "production": 42 \\ }, \\ "uptime": 9999 \\};No trimming needed, nor removing indentation, no worries about a stray comma breaking things for C like compile time concat, no need to add many '\n's.I haven't used the language yet, but I am totally completely deeply in love with this.

@tejr Looks like it doesn't preserve linebreaks tho: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/10526011/does-vimscript-allow-multi-line-strings , AFAICT Zig includes the linebreak if there are more than one lines https://ziglang.org/documentation/0.2.0/#Multiline-String-Literals

@cidney I think part in this is everyone has their own negative interactions with him, including all the cis het collaborators.Personally I've had little interactions with him, pushing a couple patches to emacs and some mails on emacs-devel@ and emacs-tangents@, and while I was not abused, it was so painfully obvious how harmful to FOSS and how annoying he was.So everyone had a say and as usual the most "agreeable" folks got the tallest platform out of which they spoke the loudest...

Reading https://ling.auf.net/lingbuzz/005790 was somewhat disappointing.Apparently when recording with phone or Zoom (the meeting app) F0 is fairly intact, F1-2 less so, and F3 is unreliable. Also, Zoom spoils intensity data. These results are from participants that were linguists, some of which were phoneticians, and were recorded in "quiet home conditions".This is worrisome... I need the intensity data. And while F0 variation is not significant the outliers seem to be consequential..

@publius That might be why the weird random intensity drops are happening in their data. Apparently during random intervals the intensity measurements drop extremely, very visibly in the spectra. Data from women is also qualitatively but obviously worse.Even if that wasn't the case I think there's an ethical case against relying on Zoom for research...

@vascorsd God am I happy, jolly, extatic that I stopped using Signal when they pulled off the PIN thing. Back then nobody I knew used it so it was just a nicer SMS app to me. It was one of those moments that, if you're not looking elsewhere, tells you who you're dealing with. Sadly discussions on it became flamewarlike and people ended up looking elsewhere. We're in _dire_ need of an open instant messaging protocol to be forced onto internet by legislation.

@vascorsd Also this from the reddit thread pretty sad if true:? According to coinmarketcap, MobileCoin's "Fully Diluted Market Cap is $15,638,578,369.65". **Moxie is an advisor to MobileCoin**. If we take a conservative assumption of a 1% advisor grant [...], then that would put the amount Moxie received for integrating MobileCoin at $150 million today (or tens of millions a few weeks ago).(emphasis mine)

@abcdw I'm interested in this but I'll have to defer testing/reading unfortunately. One question I have is how this interacts with ~/.profile. I have a fairly dynamic/large one that has to accomodate multiple distros. systemd-homed and environmentd seem to expect a static env var config instead. Is the scope of guix home similar, and if yes how do you handle env vars?

https://abcnews.go.com/International/mount-everest-tackles-60000-pound-trash-problem-campaign/story?id=62773297> The Government of Nepal now demands that each climber deposit $4,000, which is refundable only if the climber brings down at least 17.6 pounds of trash on his or her way off the mountain.> But even that may not stem the garbage tide, given that a “guided climb” up and down Everest can cost as much as $100,000. A $4,000 garbage tax may feel like "tip money."#ShitRichPeopleDo
