This has probably been my worst gardening year I've ever had. Frost in June set everything back by weeks. Now I'm fighting aphids on plants that aren't as strong as they usually are by this point.

Couldn't wait any longer. I woke to a couple broken branches. Had to save the others. https://npub1cgcwm56v5hyrrzl5ty4vq4kdud63n5u4czgycdl2r3jshzk55ufqe52ndy.blossom.band/7e71cf14a019ecb4738fe5bf486cbd19b6ad1b605487fc6bffdae7036aa56ea5.jpg

No, they put up a fight, except the ones that were closer to ripe. No black. Some wormy ones & some sun scald.

Its a heavy fruit year. It's been much rainier here than normal, but this isn't the first time I've dealt with early fruit. I steam juice, so that helps and then I end up adding frozen juice concentrate to the cider mix to kick-start fermentation anyway so it all works out.

Yessir. They're easy to grow as long as it gets hot. They don't like temperate conditions but they grow really fast in the heat. I start them indoors, but I have to do that with most things.

Interesting. I have no clue what "smart relay selection" means. The site shows the top 50 relays in 10002s, but it doesn't say what (if any) part that has in the other data shown or give any indication of how many relays are actually being monitored. relay.nostr.band is #7 though. Relayable is listed in the top 12... still lots of education to do 😅

Rural living is entertajning sometimes. It's not uncommon to end up with a random dog in the yard. Usually they're friendly cow dogs that get bored and go exploring.... which happened today. This dog was sweet, but he was young and had no clue which direction to go for home. So, off to Facebook, I go. I post a picture of the dog, asking if anyone knows the owner. I got an immediate response from a bored housewife... "It belongs to that guy with the red cows at the 4 corners" ... as if every intersection doesn't have 4 corners and every other house around here doesn't have cows. So, I loaded up this dog in my car. I decided we'd go for a little drive and wait for a less casual answer, while keeping my new friend from running on the nearby highway. We made a 30 mile round trip to the nearest store for a dog biscuit and some fuel. Ultimately, we got our answer, my new buddy went home, and the guy's cows were black.

I've been sucked into computer stuff lately, which i know nothing about. I'm enjoying learning. I've wanted to for a long time, but through it, my ego has been struggling to maintain a heartbeat. I feel like a complete moron, and too many hours of that in a week is bad for the soul. I had to take a few minute to do something with my hands. I looked at this pile of birch bark I've collected & remembered seeing fancy 'fire starters' made of random forest floor sweepings and wax, on etsy or somewhere like that, and thinking " wow, what a scam. I could do that". So I did.I gathered up some pine needles and juniper berries from my yard. I snipped up some birch bark and the grapefruit rind trimmings left over from my bergamot box experiment. I piled it all in little cups & poured beeswax over them. Bam! Fancy little fire starters for the outdoorsy cosplayers. They are cute & they smell incredible... but I don't think I have the heart to shove 6 of these in a box and charge $15 for them 😅 https://cdn.satellite.earth/3829f8711a35f5b17adb64c959ac996c664cc3a740d171e4d5e88b27a76d5e8c.jpg

I got a cool gift today. This was digitized and printed off of a 100(ish) year old time-lapse negative. I've been eyeing it for a while, so I am pretty happy to have brought it home with me. The shooting stars are just awesome. The age flaws in the negative make it even cooler to me. https://spatia-arcana.com/12d59a743fab4cad1fa6e418eb8141367517b27b3b9290f02e9df741d9eaf403.jpg

Far too often, I get the late evening urge to wash my blankets, thinking about how I will sleep so good with warm, fresh sheets and blankets... then I'm stuck waiting for them to dry until I'm dog tired, and I don't want to put them back on the mattress. This always ends one of two ways and never how I imagine. ðŸ«

...which is weird, but why is it weird? Social conditioning? Am I protecting the mattress from myself or myself from the mattress? Consciously, it's the former but laying on it feels like the latter... so the alternative is the couch. 😅
