This is one of the worst collections of changeset comments I’ve seen so far: this person makes (bad) edits and names all of them "ok". 🙄Remember: useful changeset comments make life much easier for other people in the community.

Mistakes that stay for several years in #OpenStreetMap is a common issue.It’s always interesting to find such a mistake contaminating other websites that rely on OSM data.Someone apparently made up a name for an area, and that name is used on real estate websites. 😄

There is a 6th layer on osm.org now: CyclOSM. 👍It provides several benefits over the existing Cycle Map layer. Among others, you can easily see roads with cycle lanes. And tiles appear to be regenerated more frequently too.

Time has come to clean up all the mess—including mistakes I made in my early days here—around Brussels Central Station.This is the current situation, with tons of navigation or validation mistakes.In the past weeks I shot videos of every part of the station, took notes, and drew everything on paper. There is a MapComplete theme for this now.https://en.osm.town/@MapComplete/108668814034646697This is version 1, for the most basic actions: map of existing crossings, adding "crossing:marking=rainbow" on nodes, and letting you upload a picture.Everyone can edit the code. If anyone is willing to improve it, perhaps it could do more things in the future, e.g. other patterns, colour borders, and more.

As from today, new nodes in OpenStreetMap have 11 digits. https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/10000000000 was created on Sunday afternoon.

There is a bus station in Halle (small town south of Brussels) with 10 platforms.Numbering does not go from 1 to 10 but from 0 to 9. Those are the real platform numbers. Geeks at work! 😁

The beauty of living in Belgium: cultural institutions are run by separate governments, one for French-speakers and one for Dutch-speakers.We sometimes come up with this: two libraries in the same building, each of them serving books in one language. They may almost have the same name but are run by different operators and do not have the same opening hours.Counting the days before an armchair mapper will erase one of them, believing this is a duplicate.

If you are not comfortable with editors or don’t want to corrupt existing data, you can contribute to OpenStreetMap with notes.I know a mapper who created an account 3 years ago and didn’t do a single edit. But he will regularly survey places and create notes, which I use to update the map.I endeavour to put a link to the newly-created object in the note and sometimes ask for more details. Now, we understand each other well and he knows what information is useful. A great partnership!

Somewhere in Asse (Belgium): a mapper named Ruben wrote "I put my house on the map so that people can easily find me"… and named the building "House of Ruben".Interestingly, that fake name went unnoticed for 9 years before being removed.💎 I always wonder how many such issues are still waiting to be found. Time for some overpass queries!

There are now 3 routing engines offered on the main osm.org website.Here comes Valhalla! Available for car, bicycle and foot presets, just like OSRM and GraphHopper.

@barefootstache I realise I never replied to this but I could say "Challenge accepted!". 😎This is the best layout I could achieve after updating the geometries. As you can see, the tubes binding the spheres are impossible to represent correctly—tried as buildings, as footbridges or as stairs—and rendering buildings with rounded floors is not possible either. 🤯
