πŸ“’ Descriptions of the GNU #Hurd vulnerabilities I've found earlier this year are now public! πŸŽ‰Read them here: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-hurd/2021-11/msg00018.html This should be an interesting read even if you're not very familiar with the Hurd and #Mach πŸ™‚(phew, it took me quite some time to write, too!)

This Send button is just a few pixels away from the quote expander thingie. One sloppy tap and your unfinished email is on its way.

@peter it is, though the pace is slow. Some recent commits to the Hurd proper can be seen here: https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/hurd/hurd.git/log/ and there's also GNU Mach, glibc, and various other repos

"Sergey just had his morning β˜•" idle thought:the sandboxing features of #Flatpak should be fairly orthogonal to its distribution features (runtimes, remotes, OSTree, manifests, ...)so there should be a way to run most "system" apps "in a Flatpak sandbox" and reap all the security benefits without compromising on systems integration & stuff

@js please see my other reply: https://mastodon.technology/@bugaevc/107223912201232412bwrap is a small tool to expose Linux namespaces to unprivileged users, and to provide a CLI for it. What I'm looking for is not a way to create namespaces β€” that you can already do, with bubblewrap or otherwise β€” but to run host things in the real actual Flatpak sandbox/context.

@js Flatpak context is just bwrap in the same way as systemd services are just processes or ActivityPub is just HTTP, or I'm just a bunch of atoms: it's a higher-level concept that's built on a lower-level mechanism.I'm mostly looking for things in flatpak-instance.c, flatpak-context.c, and flatpak-run.c in libflatpak. There's surely some bwrap args building there; but it's how they are built and what other things are started/created (like those state files in .flatpak) that are interesting.

Unpopular opinion:IDEs and editors that go above and beyond to provide the developer with more context & info that's not present in the actual source code, such as the inlay hints feature, can be very helpful to understand things right here and now, but end up being harmful to code clarity & readability in the long term

πŸ“’ Owl is now on GitHub! πŸŽ‰After an unsigned long long wait, I'm finally releasing the source code of Owl, my portable #Wayland compositor in Objective-C that runs on Mac OS X, the Hurd (and probably just about anywhere else thanks to the magic of #GNUstep). Along with it, I'm also publishing the port of Wayland that runs on OS X.Please note that Owl is still very much a work in progress. It's amazing that many things work, but naturally others don't. There's a lot to improve!https://github.com/owl-compositor/owl

@mbirth it sends commands to the shell (I imagine some escape sequence-based protocol, but I haven't thought about the specifics too much). See my other replies in this thread where I went into some more details about how this protocol should be shell- and toolkit-independent and how it somewhat resembles DWDs.

πŸ“’ Important PSA: I'm being conscripted (or: drafted) for military service, starting next week (Nov 15th).This means you won't see hot takes or obscure project announcements, nor free software contributions, nor any online activity from me for a whole year. This is the reason I have rushed publishing those Hurd vulnerability details and the Owl source code.I'll be back in a year, and I'm excited to see what amazing progress y'all are going to make in this time.
