This is the very starting point of the Hoh Rainforest where the Hoh river is about to meet the Pacific Ocean. Over the last few days we hiked from here (Oil City) up to 3rd Beach — 17 miles along the South Coast Route in the Olympic Wilderness. More fun pictures to come.#PNW#OlympicNationalPark#Backpacking#Rainforest

Heading North from the Hoh river you have to round the diamond rock headlands which requires a low tide. This is arduous during incoming tides — it’s more than a mile of rock scrambling. The reward is Jefferson Cove pictured here, which curves around to Hoh Head.#PNW#OlympicCoast#OlympicNationalPark#Backpacking

There are no pictures from our rounding of Diamond Rock — we were very busy at the time — but here is a view of that point from up on top of the overland trail across Hoh head. The overland trail is reached by rope ladders from the beach. It is 3.5 miles long and quite technical — but there is a lot of cool rainforest stuff up there.#PNW#OlympicNationalPark#OlympicCoast#Rainforest

Here is something cool we found in the rainforest on the overland trail across Hoh Head. It’s a banana slug eating the leaf of a devil’s club plant. I don’t know for sure, but that black gooey stuff next to the shiny slime looks like it’s maybe a lot of slug poop.#BananaSlug#PNW#OlympicNationalPark#Backpacking

At the North end of the overland trail across Hoh Head, you come to Mosquito Creek which has some great camp sites up on a bluff and some excellent views. The views from the camp sites are not quite as good as this view from up the hill at the privy. Best privy view I’ve ever seen.We found no mosquitos at mosquito creek.#PNW#OlympicCoast#OlympicNationalPark#Backpacking

Here is another cool thing found on that Hoh Head overland trail. I think this shelf-fungus is a Red-belted Polypore. All that drippy sap-like fluid along the front edge makes me think this is one happy fungus.#FungiFriday#PNW#OlympicNationalPark #Backpacking

So we left Mosquito Creek camp and hiked north a couple miles up a beach at low tide, and then climbed ropes up to another (shorter) overland trail. Before descending we got this view north toward Toleak Point — our next camp on the trip. This is a view of the south side of Toleak Point where people were camped on the beach sand. We camped on the North side in the shade of the forest.#PNW#OlympicCoast#OlympicNationalPark#Backpacking

It’s possible for college administrators to take a different approach to student protests by actually listening to the students, engaging in honest dialog, and working on solutions that can address concerns without calling the cops.Evergreen State to explore Israel divestment after deal with studentshttps://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/law-justice/evergreen-state-to-explore-israel-divestment-after-deal-with-students/

Both the Seattle Times and KUOW are running big stories today about the just released Bumbershoot lineup. That’s cool, but Bumbershoot is months away. This weekend is the Northwest Folklife Festival at the Seattle Center with tons of live music and arts available for your cultural enrichment. They don’t sell tickets but do ask for a donation on entry. Full schedule here:https://nwfolklife.org/festival/schedule/in-person-schedule.htmlI’m performing Sunday the 26th at 3pm at the Storm Welcome stage.#Seattle#livemusic #nwfolklife

@GottaLaff When Aaron Brown was still a local anchor in Seattle he gave a lecture for my college journalism class. Some student complained about the poor quality of local TV news and he told us ‘TV news is not the news, it’s a TV show about the news. If you want the news, read a newspaper’. And of course he was right about that.

@Nonilex The issue kinda drives me nuts, because there is no such thing as a “sanctuary city/state”. Local and state governments are under no obligation to spend resources participating in enforcement of federal laws. It’s that simple. Here in Seattle we have really tight budgets and a lot of other expenses. Our police budgets are limited (not limited enough for my taste but still). We can’t afford to waste money on immigration enforcement, and we just don’t have to.

@futurebird Remember how awesome 2008 was when the derivatives were about mortgages attached to actual real-estate? Now the derivatives are about bullshit attached to nothing at all Super cool. I can’t wait. Everyone is going to be getting pretend rich for a hot minute! Then they will not.
