"dlg@ added sys/net/toeplitz.*: Add a symmetric toeplitz implementation, with integration for nics. This is another bit of the puzzle for supporting multiple rx rings and receive side scaling (RSS) on nics. It borrows heavily from DragonflyBSD ... Interesting new #OpenBSD subsystem "kstat(4) - a subsystem to let the kernel expose statistics to userland.""loosely modelled on kstat in solaris, but with a bunchof simplifications (we don't want to provide write support for example)."https://marc.info/?l=openbsd-cvs&m=159400783331530&w=2

@nawi No need! The 32-bit EFI loader provided is meant for exactly this situation: booting OpenBSD/amd64 with 32-bit EFI firmware. There is no EFI boot support for OpenBSD/i386.

@nawi @tedu There is no support at all in the .ISO images, you need to do a USB install for EFI boot.

@nawi @tedu Then it must've been using legacy boot, not EFI.

@MatejLach "Other platforms do it" is not good enough reason alone, IMHO. This has come up countless times and not once has the kernel memory overhead of tracking this information been justified (My understanding is OpenBSD doesn't keep a cached inode handy, and it could have been deleted), also many this feature is itself a hack. No software wants to inspect its own executable in any meaningful way, instead this is used to find the "directory containing the executable" at runtime.

@MatejLach This concept of supporting a Wild West of installed software locations comes from other operating systems, and is not how software has been traditionally written on Unix. As semarie@ wrote in their reply, this has typically be done at compile time in our ports tree. For example, patching in LOCALBASE (/usr/local).
