@devinprater @sam Markdown is designed to be converted to HTML so you have converters for every language. The main drawback of MD is that it doesn't have a standard per se but if you stick to a de-facto standard like CommonMark you should be good: https://commonmark.org/

@nextcloud the page has a big banner saying it's been postponed to June. Or is it a different event?

@neil yeah, shops. To recover the variety we used to have. My high street has lost its butcher, fishmonger and baker. The grocers only survive by becoming corner shops with all sorts of stuff. So to do a food shop, the only option within walking distance is a small supermarket. The shops that have gone are not contiguous so you couldn't put a bigger market in their place. An evening meeting place that is not a pub would be good too.

@parismarx I wish they told the whole story about the .io domain. It is uninhabited because the native islanders were evicted by force: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chagos_ArchipelagoAs a result, the profits on .io go to the UK government, not a small island nation. The islanders were expelled to allow the US and UK governments to build a joint military base on Diego Garcia.

@aral plus there's an obvious and simpler design pattern using one check box for each of "this campaign" and "Uplift". This amazing design pattern even scales to more than 2 entities, it's as if it had been designed for their use case!

@sil @popey I'm a phone in front pocket, wallet in back pocket person. That's why I have a secrid wallet: metal core with leather cover to protect my bum.

@pixelfed when I try to install from Google Play, it only allows me to pre-register. Why would that be?

@futurebird @spacehobo @aral probably. I'd still love to rip up all the tarmac in small streets around here and drive one of those around with experienced pavers and a stock of paving stones to make fancy patterns. It's like pixel art for the road.

@mahryekuh @futurebird @davidho I once went from Stockholm to Copenhagen by train before the Øresund bridge was built and they just rolled the train onto the ferry, sailed across and rolled off.

@futurebird @philbetts mycelium aka the wood wide web? Which also links other species like trees. The Hidden Life of Trees explains some of that: https://www.peterwohllebenbooks.com/the-hidden-life-of-trees

@dom @ameel @pluralistic As someone who benefitted from free education, I'll point out that making it free only makes the system less bad, it doesn't address the root cause. As long as achieving good grades is seen as essential for success, students will focus on it. For them to learn, you need to offer a way forward to those with mediocre grades.
