@dave Disappointing article; just clickbait gossip. They could have simply answered their own headline with a “we have no idea.” Instead they were, er, less than candid.

@dave While it’s clear the Cybertruck has many challenges, I’ll wait for assessments from actual vehicle engineers rather than trust any insights from an unknown screenwriter/producer who freelances clickbait articles at that bastion of journalism Fast Company.

@clive @mjgardner @simon @kittylyst My kingdom for an AI that can listen to any musical recording and, knowing what effects pedals, sound libraries, and AU plugins I have, tell me which one or which combo to use to replicate any sound. Or, just whips up an AU instrument on the fly that makes that exact sound.

@dave No fan or AutoPilot or FSD (no amount of money could get me to ever use either) or Musk, of course, but this is just another in a long line of questionable articles by the same old Tesla-enemies at the Bezos-owned Washington Post. Same old story, too. Same old cases, even. Emphasis on old. They just keep rehashing it all. It’s not an investigation, it’s a campaign. The public is not well-informed by this. The Bradlee-era Post would never have run this crap.

@clive Based on what I see in New Mexico (setting aside the nightmarish driving of so many vehicle drivers) I often can’t help but assume pedestrians are deliberately walking out into traffic situations, esp on busy multi-lane streets. Jaywalking, just crossing the street wherever they please, ignoring flashing Do Not Walk signs, taking their time, not looking both ways. Kinda makes one wonder if they do it because they *wanna* get hit.

@IdahoLark Also impressive about Denali is that the park grounds lie at an altitude of a mere 1000-3000ft above sea level, so The Mountain really towers above you, unlike most mountains elsewhere in N America.

@clive New Mexico is a petrostate as well, and, surprise surprise, our Governor went to COP28 along with all the oil and gas reps.

One reason I got rid of TV in 2010.Essentially, any device described as "smart" means surveillance. I avoid them all except for a smartphone (which of course is the ultimate surveillance/tracking device, which sucks but what are ya gonna do).

@grammargirl @Locusmag Funny, seeing that photo. When I was a young whippersnapper I worked in a room that looked exactly like that photo. Uncannily like that photo. Only difference being, those weren’t bookshelves and there weren’t any books. Instead those big boxes were Cyber supercomputers running in a very loud room that they kept very cold. (Ironically: the room was situated in the basement of the university library.)

@dave Do New Yorkers usually own cars? I always assumed it wasn't worth the hassle of finding/paying for parking, and everyone used other forms of transportation to get around.

@clive Boing Boing, really? 🤷♂️This Boeing social media hysteria is getting out of control, closing in on Tesla-scale social media BS levels. The 737 is everywhere in the world, with like 4,500 jets in active service across 500 airlines on every continent every day. Representing like 1/5 of *all* airline jets in service, worldwide. The public does not know the cause of this one particular accident yet. It’s pointless to speculate.Keep calm and carry on. Let investigators investigate.

@rolle Respectfully disagree on CIVIL WAR (never saw THE PURGE). CIVIL WAR is detached from reality. Filmmakers didn’t even have the guts to explain wtf was going on. California and . . . TEXAS?! . . . aligning together? Why? How? Due to what? Why is nation at war? What/who started it? Who knows: never explained. In the real world we know exactly what is going on: traitorous, lawless, kleptocratic, misogynist, racist, pro-Russia right-wing that wants Xian equiv of Sharia law in US.

@elipariser @washingtonpost @willoremus @wearenew_public Social media tends to be done right -- when the scale is small. This has been the case since PLATO and The WELL.It's once you add scale, then the MBAs come in, and wanna grow everything to numbers in the billions, and the pressure is on to do so. The motivations change. The vibe changes. The people change. The rules change. In the end, you get crap.I suspect it will certainly happen to Threads.

@seaotta 32 years and a quarter of a million dollars of research, interviews, travel, phone bills, equipment, supplies, and more travel, for my book, published in 2017 and now stolen by all these effing #AI bandits
