It’s depressing to start to see people’s accounts on Twitter being taken over by hackers, super depressing to report the hackers by filling out a form that there’s no one left there to read, and super duper depressing to, after tweeting about it, get flooded with spam replies

At this rate I give it like a week until that site is just a digital version of the zombies taking over the mall in “Dawn of the Dead.”

@mathewi Yeah, once word got out that there was a server for journalists, we all started getting attacked with really vile stuff on Saturday night before Adam & co. blocked the servers it was coming from. The fact that they were able to block entire servers of trolls on our behalf so quickly was, for me, the moment when I "got" the fediverse, and realized that this was going to be where I spend my time instead of Twitter.

All the talk of leaving the birdsite vs. staying on the birdsite to “fight” makes me think of Barry Lopez:“The amount of energy that goes into the defeat of an enemy is energy that would be better spent in doing something that makes the enemy irrelevant.”

Hi so I teamed up with a couple of colleagues for a special series in this week's issue that looks at what happens to the Hudson Valley's agriculture when we have a crazy mild winter like the one we just had (not to mention the probability that said crazy mild winter will soon become the norm.) What happens to the trees and flowers and bugs and what can we do about it? https://highlandscurrent.org/2023/03/31/special-report-dire-warmings/?swcfpc=1
