@grammargirl this is wonderful thank you. Now I know why this phrase bothers me so much whenever I see it.

@clive well... Except wind and solar indirectly harness the SUN. The biggest baddest burnt thing around. I suppose we didn't ignite it. So perhaps that's something. And before you get hu g up on the indirect business. Almost all fire energy transfer is indirect. There's only a couple mechanisms/situations where the heat actual is directly used.

@grammargirl transom is commonly used to refer to the back end of a boat as well.

@clive my rambling take on this is it will be transitory. Maybe the next 5 years or so while the rate of charge increases and standardizes. To take your laptop example, and what I have noticed in other consumer electronics as a trend, is to increase the charging rate dramatically to allow for smaller batteries and cheaper devices. It's a common strategy for the 5min from 20% to 80% marketing bleeps. My x250 Thinkpad had more battery life than my x1 carbon from this year and I miss it.

@clive that truck is just so nice. Now if we could just close the EPA loophole and regulate towards pedestrian safety we might reverse the present trend.

@coffeegeek my guess is it's all demographics. I don't have many peers on either of these platforms. But my kids friends all are. So which audience is more important to CG? Not convinced that these marketers are serving their brands well.
