So, last night instead of writing a blog post, I fell asleep on the couch. Might do that again.

Twitter is blocked at school and I think the block message says it all.

I get some time to write some code tonight. I could work on a helper app I use for school, but that would count as work in my mind.Instead, I'm going to try to wire up a DIY comment service for my blog. I've already got my main domain running a small Flask server, so I'll throw a small database model on and create endpoints to fetch and post. Then, I'm going to write a web component to load comments and provide a simple form.#code #webdev #python

Another apparatus question: anyone know what this is?Two glass bulbs connected by a glass tube. Watery orange liquid inside. **Edit: It's called a "pulse glass" or "Franklin's palm glass."A liquid with a very low boiling point is sealed. Holding one bulb will boil the liquid and it will flow to the opposite side. Used to show vapor pressure, IMFs, etc. Very cool piece of old equipment.#chemistry #askfedi

Does anyone who uses #OpenTracks on #Android know where marker photos are stored? I took some pictures on a ride today, but I can't find the actual picture anywhere outside the app.#askfedi

"The problem with the pick and mix approach to the indieweb is that it’s inherently individualistic, almost consumerist – my choices, my approach to something, my technology, my thoughts – me and my blog...But simply stating your opinion in isolation lessens your ability to actually have an effect on anything – there’s strength in collective thought and action. What do we think."@paternoster asks good questions about the community aspect of the #indieweb mindset.https://www.thisdaysportion.com/posts/indieweb-in-the-age-of-trump/

#chemistry people:We're working on pH and acid base equilibria in one of my classes. If I had them do a lab where they prepare two solutions - acetic + ammonium hydroxide - at known concentrations, measure pH, and then calculate Ka/Kb, are there other extensions that would make it more rigorous? We have not done buffers or weak titrations yet - I'm slowly working my way there.#askfedi #teaching

My other thought was to have them do the calculations to reach a specific pH and then dilute stock to that concentration and then measure with a pH probe. They can do all the theory work ahead to prepare a specific solution and then practice careful, quantitative lab skills to actually make the thing. That might be a better bridge to buffers, preparing solutions to be a specific pH, before going into common ions and conjugate salts to resist pH change.

I kind of like this idea because it will also (probably) mean a _series_ of dilutions, so they'll have to think about how to create their own procedure to get from point A to point B.

That may be too much for this lab. I think I'll stick with a more generalized approach where they make several solutions and then measure the pH. They can calculate the H+ and OH- ion concentrations and then calculate Ka/Kb and compare to published.

I've been struggling with how to approach hardening my class against generative AI abuse by students. @RobertTalbert has a helpful post on what he did and what he learned in a college-level math course this spring that I feel like validates some of the choices I've made.https://blog.ohheybrian.com/2025/04/my-ai-driven-grading-approaches/#teaching

@firephoto @ai6yr I walked out to my barn tonight where I keep extra gear and had dozens of scouts. We're two weeks ahead of my earliest swarm ever, so I was not prepared for that activity. Cleaned up and put out two bait hives that scouts have more interest in now. I'm expecting at least one swarm this week now.

I need a new router. Ours is well over 10 years old and not really keeping up anymore. I lose signal on the far side of the house and is just underperforming.I don't game and we don't have high network needs. Is there a brand/model that works well for you? Open to recommendations.#askfedi

I need some #nginx help.I'm trying to move from blog.example.com (old) to example.com/blog (new). I have a redirect set up on the subdomain to point at the new URL and that works fine. The problem I'm running into is old shared links include a trailing slash which leads to a 404. I threw a rewrite in nginx to remove the slash before sending to the application and it causes a redirect loop. I'm not sure how to do this correctly.#webdev #askfedi
