@CarlCravens well, it's a fine time to be checking out some newer stuff on vinyl. it's re-emerged as something like standard, at least for a lot of genres. i've bought records at a surprising number of shows in the last 3 or 4 years.the main downside being that it's way harder to tuck one in in your pocket after leaving the merch table...@pagrus

currently doing the napkin math on when that interval is gonna arrive where it's completely obvious that it's time to GTFO for a part of the country with more water and less burning but some yuppie will still be oblivious enough to pay rich people prices to tear down this house and replace it with a more expensive box

4 or 5 years ago, i was doing contract stuff and scavenging around for some extra work, and somebody in an open-source centric community i'm in said hey, i need a website and a forum and a mailing list and such for a project. sure thing, i said, i can just spin you up a little digitalocean box with a static site on it, install discourse, so on and so forth. we'll use mostly open source stuff, keep it simple.

it finally got cold, and i went out for a walk in the half-snowclouds-half-sunlight weather and saw:- a coyote, so intent on stalking prairie dogs in the grass that i didn't get so much as an ear-twitch while walking past.- a bald eagle sitting a tree surveying the half-frozen river.- a bulldozer and a really impressive front end loader pushing around some dirt and large rocks.

@Angle hrm. a handful of thoughts crop up on reading this:1. there are some interesting ideas and correct understandings here, but the core claim that "[trump] de-emphasized the unfavorable terrain of race/sex/etc, and focused on class" is doing a lot of work and is, to put it politely, either a misdirection or a flat untruth, depending on how you read it.(1/2)

@Angle 2. can confirm that the anti-college thing is taking a deep hold on the GOP base lately.3. there're some things about the recent consensus narrative of alexander as closet fascist or whatever that strike me as off the mark, and i have a lot of friends who have kind of a rationalist bent or at least read the blog regularly, but reading this i think i'm calling it now: dude's going to go full public reactionary in fairly short order.(2/2)
