@simon Google has not reliably found what I need in many years. People should lose the notion that Google is all knowing.Google search has led me to many pages which were not helpful or were even misleading. It’s why I open results in tabs and quickly skim to determine which might be useful. Perhaps AI can do better to interpret requests and give me better leads. All I expect is a head start, not the answer.

@atomicpoet @lacouvee What service that supports ActivityPub but not Mastodon can I follow right now from a Mastodon client? I don’t know if I’ve done this yet. I’m still new to it.

@atomicpoet I’m following @fediversenews already. That’s cool. That’s a good example of what ActivityPub can do. I think micro servers that just publish would be very useful, like public transit and severe weather updates. I could follow relevant zip codes. I’d like to run such services which consume public data and share on ActivityPub.

@kairyssdal @drahardja I would very much like to see a business analyst make her explain in detail without referencing notes. She had to have help putting all these words together. Buying government bonds has to be the most neutral investing option.

Remember Mark Zuckerberg has been paying a firm to spread negative stories about TikTok for over a year now. He has no shame and will do this to any platform. Instead of competing he just wants to get it banned. https://nypost.com/2022/03/30/meta-paid-gop-firm-to-push-negative-stories-about-tiktok-report/ #TikTok

@LucyWildboots Fortunately Mastodon is not centralized so you can move to another server. Though I believe server admins could run multiple domains which could operate under different policies while sharing the server infra to host multiple domains. I once ran many websites with Apache Web Server on my co-located server and updating the software and server hardware upgraded every website. Admins definitely need all the support we can give them. Without ad revenue some may just burn out and shut down.

@realcaseyrollins @edgeoforever @dwl If NPR is a government funded organization then what about Tesla and SpaceX which have both taken a lot of money from the US government. The reason Elon Musk did this was to strongly suggest that NPR is “fake news” and continue that false talking point. He wants his nonsense to be seen as credible as longtime news organizations. But he had no credibility.

@realcaseyrollins @edgeoforever @dwl When it comes to social media, what really matters is the reach an account has combined with the information that it is spreading. If it is misleading and harmful that’s a serious problem. Elon Musk has spread harmful misinformation. It should not matter that his account is not a news organizations. Many people still make decisions about their health based on his impulsive remarks. At least with credible news orgs they will post corrections when they learn they made a mistake. I cannot recall when Elon Musk has done this. He typically doubles down or ignores criticism. He’s not accountable. NPR is accountable to both their listeners as well as corporations which fund it.

@realcaseyrollins @edgeoforever @dwl It is less than 1%. And that’s just the excuse. The purpose of this label is to suggest NPR and the information it reports is dictated from a government that is intentionally misleading the public. That is not true.

@tante AI is just another tool that helps us do work. If this tool can source more references and bring together useful information faster than me I am all for it. If a contractor showed up to my house with power tools to help them do their job faster instead of doing the work by hand I would not expect the work to be lower quality. We should be using better tools when they are available. The contractor will still review all work to ensure it is up to their standards.

@rlux This is a good reason for users on those servers to migrate to another server which has a more stable record. Admins must understand they are stewards of the community, not owners or dictators, and this behavior will drive people away, rightfully.

@clive @evanmc Weight and range should cross a luxury threshold. Make a city car more common and more affordable. If I want to do a road trip I am happy to rent a vehicle for that occasional use.

@myoan @erlend Is there an Open Source alternative to Discord or Slack? I find the 2FA support in Discord to be difficult to use. Slack has amazing search support. What I’d design is a distributed workspace where each channel can actually be hosted on a different server to distribute the load. I’d also make it so people can run backend support on home computers while the public servers proxy work to these home clients. The workspace would be a lightweight hub that supports auth and shared services like search. Is there anything like this?

@Wolven It would help to have a reference that employees could use to educate those who set the policy on which browsers are required so policies can be revised. In 2023 we have many browser options which have strong support for web standards so there is almost no reason to be stuck with any one browser. We should not be back sliding to the time of the Browser Wars when IE6 was so dominant and web developers did not bother supporting other browsers.

@Adam @drahardja They shipped a bunch of plastic phones and the one ad they showed most often kept featuring a kickstand, made of plastic. The Metro UI was really good, but they decided to create multiple cheap devices nobody wanted instead of 1 really good device. It is too bad. Having a 3rd option would be good for everyone.

Mastodon should support Markdown formatting. This should actually be defined as a part of ActivityPub. Beyond bold and italics, it would be great to create links to make the content easier to read. https://www.markdownguide.org #Mastodon #ActivityPub

@Adam @drahardja When these new phones came out I even went to a Hackathon for Windows Phone. The .NET runtime was so gutted that you could not use many APIs so your code could not be easily used on this hardware. Back then LINQ was such a powerful new SDK. The most essential parts were cut out on the phone. 🫤

@yogthos @coldfish The ACLU and other organizations should be suing the government which has been behind this pressure campaign on multiple social media platforms. It is one thing if a private company takes this action independently, but reports have shown this has been in response to government pressure. US officials have even pressured Qatar to make Al Jazeera scale back their coverage in Gaza. The evidence is going to get out anyway of the crimes and the cover up and it will not be a good look.

Hospitals will soon stop reporting COVID cases. So I had a look. The numbers appear quite low here in San Francisco.https://www.sf.gov/resource/2021/covid-19-data-and-reportsThe worst in the state was Orange County which also appears to be low.https://covidactnow.org/us/california-ca/county/orange_county/?s=49873732Is there zero risk of COVID? That will not be true anytime soon. It is still important to do self tests if you feel you have symptoms and mask up when you feel you are in an environment with greater risk of exposure. Personally I feel every environment I have been in over the past year has been relatively safe and I have not been aware of any outbreaks in my vicinity. But I continue to watch out for signs. #COVID
