I'm starting to wonder what they actually teach the students here, and how much they will need to relearn in college.

When making adaptive apps for GNOME, it's important that you don't think of smaller sizes as being a mobile mode. You still need to account for desktop users that simply want to use a smaller window - like if they're using a small laptop.Be mindful that all your UI elements are still accessible with the pointer and via keyboard navigation.

(In an accessibility discussion)Me: What of the people with wheelchairs when they have to get to an important meeting somewhere and there's no way for them to enter a building? Is it unreasonable for them to ask for a ramp?Them: maybe?I honestly have no clue how to deal with these people anymore. I'm so fucking fed up.

CLI apps that have `-h` as anything other than `--help` are pure evil.

Cool, the Reddit CEO straight up said he was inspired by Musk, if that's any indication for the future of the platform: https://twitter.com/MattBinder/status/1669800835843235845

If you're interested in using Typescript for GNOME apps, you can now use the new Typescript SDK Extension. I've also published a Typescript Template you can use as a starting point for your apps.- https://gitlab.gnome.org/BrainBlasted/gnome-typescript-template/- https://github.com/flathub/org.freedesktop.Sdk.Extension.typescript#gnome #typescript #libadwaita #flatpak

I've been working on both of these for a while now, and I think they're finally ready to be used by others in their applications. Please give them a try and provide any feedback you might have :)

The best way to keep a project alive is to keep it approachable to newcomers.

I feel like the distro model of dependencies and the rust model of dependencies are very incompatible. Not sure what the best way to meld them together is.

The mobile GNOME ecosystem is starting to come together really nicely. I'm writing this on my OnePlus 6T using the Tuba app while listening to an album over my bluetooth headphones via Amberol.

It's somehow working (almost) seamlessly. The biggest papercuts are:Opening popovers while a different app has one olen causes the current app to crashNo autocorrectNautilus opens a context menu with every tap

On the flip side, libadwaita's new widgets work really well. I can't wait to see them reach more apps.

Are you interested in working on GNOME, writing Rust apps, or working with Fonts? If so, you may be interested in taking a look at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-font-viewer/-/merge_requests/49 :)This port may take a while, and I greatly appreciate any help available. I've laid out a list of tasks to be done before merging, and if anyone wants to take something on let me know and we can work together.(boosts appreciated)#GNOME #Rust #Fonts #gtk-rs #gtk4 #libadwaita

The nicest thing I can say about the big tech platform collapse happening is that it drove some really skilled developers to work on apps for a federated & open ecosystem.
