With just 32 hours left to go...I can't believe it...they are less than $500 away from meeting the $55k goal, which will add in-app live streaming capabilities.Let's make this happen. 💪🏼https://support.joinpeertube.org/en/#PeerTube #Fediverse #ActivityPub

wanderer, a self hosted trail logging app, has added federation via ActivityPub. You can now follow, like and comment on trails shared from other instances.https://wanderer.to/#ActivityPub #Fediverse

I have a strange #PeerTube question. So I don’t really want to host an entire instance of peertube. But! I wouldn’t mind acting as a peer for specific videos I approve to help offload streaming costs. Does such a thing exist?

@collectifission Thanks to your comment I found a way to create a desktop seeding process. It's not perfect but maybe it will give someone an idea of how to create a little web ui / server.1) Install the WebTorrent client2) Go to a PeerTube channel and view source4) Find and open the RSS feed 5) Do a search for "torrent" to highlight6) Find video(s) you want to seed and copy the torrent link7) In the WebTorrent client set focus to the window and then paste.Seed!https://github.com/webtorrent/webtorrent-desktop

@collectifission If you aren't subscribed to a channel, you can get to this easier with the "Subscribe" dropdown, RSS Feed.

Mastodon's latest version has the ability to fetch missing replies from a conversation (under an experimental flag, not enabled by default). This is a big deal, especially for smaller instances. Mastodon joins other platforms - of which I know of: Streams, GoToSocial, IceShrimp.NET and Bonfire - that pull back replies on request. The hard work on the backend is done, and now there needs to be a discussion about how this interaction works as part of the user experience.#Mastodon #Fediverse

Right now the experience is a bit awkward on most platforms: * Open a post detail view* This triggers a request to pull down missing replies in the background.* Sit and wait X number of seconds/minutes, hope the reply task is finished, refresh the screen - and maybe some/all of the extra posts are downloaded. Not the best user experience.

What is needed to improve it? A streaming endpoint? A "pull all replies" button that auto-updates, displays them as they come in? This will require front end updates to every client, which will obviously each handle this a bit differently. What we've seen in the past tho, like with post quotes, is that once a single app figures out a way to represent the process, the others follow suit.

How many parked (unused) domains do you own? I have an idea and want to know if my assumption is correct. Boost generously, please.

Takahe is one platform I never got to try. Similar to GtS in that the focus was on small to medium sized instances.https://github.com/jointakahe/takahe#ActivityPub

I've setup quite a few fediverse platforms. The instances are small, usually me and a few other fediverse devs that use them for testing. It's quiet. Very quiet. I've tried pulling in data from relays. But that's like opening floodgates to who knows what type of content.FediBuzz was nice because I could follow specific hashtags ONLY. That cut down on the noise. But that is dependent on posts using those tags.Is there a better way to curate content? I think so.#Fediverse #ActivityPub

We need a way of discovering federated groups like NodeBB, Channels.org, Lemmy & PieFed communties. The quality of content being pumped into your instance would be much better, and not dependent on every post containing a hashtag. The problem is discovery. I know NodeBB forums exist, and I follow a few Channels.org accounts. I have a PieFed account and I can jump over there and look through all the communities, then copy them over to my Mastodon account.

What would be nice is a platform search that can be filtered by Account type of "Group". Or a "bubble" feed that contains curated groups from the instance admins. I don't think that exists on Mastodon, and I haven't explicitly seen it on other platforms either. Is this the type of thing that Mastodon's FediDiscovery project could begin to solve?https://www.fediscovery.org/

Found a new web-based fediverse app that looks nice and supports MFM and Emoji. Works great with IceShrimp.NET. (thanks to JoinMastodon.org app listings)Edit: oh! It works with Hollo, too - I always forget that Hollo supports emoji reacts.https://codeberg.org/mkljczk/pl-fe#FediApps

I do like this UI and functionality, but as I looked in more detail, thinking about hosting the front end for myself, I noticed it was a fork of Soapbox.I still don't quite know the history with Soapbox, but I do believe there is some bad blood with this application among fedizens. So just be aware - it's not the primary Soapbox app or related devs, but it's based on that code.
