@aks Yeah, if you're developing software it's gonna be good to use the latest version of the software you're developing.I usually customize my software quite a lot, so having a good head's up before updating is helpful in my opinion. I've noticed I'm personally too lazy to read Arch's notes, so I find issues after updating. At work I use a pretty vanilla Fedora, and that is what I've recommended to all my friends and family. I have one friend running Ubuntu and we are looking at moving him to Fedora due to complications with drivers, which with my testing should work better with Fedora and RPMFusion.

@RL_Dane @twizzay Could a backports, unstable or experimental kernel do the trick? They should track upstream closely and you can pin that specofic package to that release channel while keeping the rest of the system on #debian stable.

Hey! People who are more knowledgeable about NVidia/NVK; has anyone said anything about Pascal support? I see some talk about Maxwell, which is older, but most of the talk is about GPUs with GSP as I understand it. I have an old Pascal GPU in a computer, which I would like to be able to use with FOSS drivers, but I have no idea where to check for progress. @stux @markwyner Ooh, looks nice! Running Navidrome atm, but I'll try this out as well and see where they differ.Also, yep, Spotify is horrible. I was using my family's subscription but recently moved off it because of many reasons. I thought their continued support of Joe Rogan + paying so little was enough, but this is just another reason to not look back.I remember trying to use Spotify for podcasts, but the UX is vastly inferior to the FOSS alternatives (+ a big feature of podcasts are that they are just RSS) and you still get ads as a paying subscriber. Shit platform overall.

@lanodan @dofh_excuses Pretty much. My use cases can be sorted into: EXT4 is most suitable, or ZFS is. BTRFS has always had weird interactions with locking up my entire system if I download games onto it (disabling CoW remedies it, but I still have lockups in some situations.) I also made the mistake of formatting a drive as bcachefs because I thought it looked promising as a GPL ZFS alternative, but I now have zero trust in the main developer and it has been removed from Linux 😭Moral of the story: File systems with a good reputation have that reputation for a reason and should be trusted unless you know you have a specific use case or you're sure you're not making a headache for yourself.

@boilingsteam I think the term sideloading is very strange. "Side" in relation to what? F-Droid is my preferred/main source, and if I can't find it there, I use Aurora Store to download from Play Store.They talk a lot about Android being an "open platform" in the post, but the term sideloading still implies that it's Google's platform and that Play Store ought to take the place of the main repository, which imo clashes with the framing of Android as an open platform.
