Just tested out the new Matrix cross-signing and it's amazing. Finally usable E2EE in Matrix.I experienced some quirks when migrating my pre cross-signing devices, but I guess that's okay since it's still not officially released (?).Either way great job @matrix team and the community!#matrix #e2ee

@amolithI think it's kind of part of their image to do billboards. They actually did billboards from the very beginning.

Migrated all my zones to from coredns to knot. Knot just makes it so much easier to use dnssec.

@selea I've looked at powerdns before but found the docs a bit confusing. Never tried it though.I mainly decided to go with knot because I don't really use the different storage backends powerdns provides.

@0xdecafbad 1/2While I don't know if it's VC funded it just looks like it's likely to be bought by some big data corp in the future. They just store some **really** valuable data for advertisers. Also the Hardened Privacy Mode sounds a bit fishy. While the privacy laws in these countries may be stronger than in the U.S., the company and their data is still under U.S. legislation no matter where it's stored. Tbh this feature reminds me a bit of "military grade encryption".

Sometime ago I saw a linux distro on birdsite that was focused on usability and also cost something.Anybody know by any chance what the name of this distro is? I can't seem to find it anymore.#linux #distro

@sir I'm curious, why do you think that matrix devs are incentivized to make bad decisions?

@sir Hmm, isn't it their goal to shut down the matrix.org HS as soon as possible (i.e. when p2p matrix is ready; or at least move people off of matrix.org when nomadic identities are ready)? From what I've heard they're pretty unhappy with running such a large and central homeserver.

@lanodan According to them[1] they have it because they want to provide a stable HS for new users and plan to kill it once some "publicly available stable HSes" pop up and account migration exists.IMO waiting for account migration is not a bad argument to keep matrix.org running for the moment. Also there currently aren't many public stable homeservers with open signups as far as I'm aware. @amolith If I had to guess I'd say the PSU isn't powerful enough. I'd check how much power the parts of your PC use and if the PSU is powerful enough.

So apparently Mozilla let go 250 employees including the threat management team.To make it even worse they announce this in a blog post full of corporate doublespeak. Also Mitchel baker has a salary of 2.5$ Mil which apparently couldn't be lowered so they at least wouldn't have had to let got the *threat management team*.#MozillaLifeboat

@sir I just wish the protocols would get a major upgrade. Especially SMTP is just full of old cruft like Mime-Version and 7bit encoding.

@sir Also switched to them a couple months ago after running my own mailserver for a couple years. I'm curious what was your reasoning for the switch?
