       Hey, folks. Big layoffs at DigitalOcean today, and my team and I were hit. In fact, so was my adjacent team, and a good chunk of my department. I don't have much reach here on Mastodon yet, but if anybody wants to discuss opportunities for a technical editor / writer / manager of same, I'm up for it.

       @mjg59 I'm envisioning a clickbait list of occupations that might say "Hmm, that's interesting. I don't know what's going on here," ranked by how concerned the listener should be. With, I dunno, linguists and textile specialists on one end, and physicians and nuclear technicians on the other.

       I've heard people say that being the GM in an RPG isn't fun, because the players are the ones doing stuff.I can only speak for myself, but I'm having a blast GM'ing the Doctor Who RPG. Pick a time period and a location, start reading: What kind of people lived there then? What did they do? What was the weather like? What were some common names?Or, set it on an alien planet and make all that stuff up yourself! It's worldbuilding, but you get to start over every few weeks.

       @aliss I feel like the devs stopped paying attention to the game itself back in the 80s when it started getting multimedia attention. There was that musical, then a few movies, then that Netflix series... It's just overexposed, you know? Everybody knows how game-to-movie adaptations go ("Battleship," anyone?), and yet that's where the devs seem to put all their energy these days.
