@Teri_Kanefield How does this work? The special grand jury/grand jury/indictment thing is confusing to me. If Fani Willis indicts persons must that go through a grand jury? If so, can it have been running alongside the special grand jury?

@Teri_Kanefield Sorry for missing this explanation. Maybe the question is: Can the DA make charging decisions without a grand jury? (We have no grand juries in Finland and Sweden. The prosecutors make all charging decisions here. Hence the confusion πŸ˜…)

@Teri_Kanefield I guess this answers my question πŸ˜… β€œThe federal government is required to use grand juries for all felonies, though not misdemeanors, by the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution. While all states in the U.S. currently have provisions for grand juries,[4] only half of the states actually employ them[5] and twenty-two require their use, to varying extents.[6]” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_juries_in_the_United_States

@Teri_Kanefield From the same wikipedia entry β€œIn Georgia, grand juries are required to issue an indictment in felony cases. They are composed of 16 to 23 people who serve for a fixed term which varies depending on the county. These grand juries hear many different cases during their session.”

@Teri_Kanefield That makes sense. Also, the special grand jury makes sense since it only consider one case.

@Teri_Kanefield I have developed an interest in grand juries lately 😜 Is this a federal grand jury? Since Washington D.C. is not a state maybe all grand juries seated there are federal?

@Teri_Kanefield β€œWe’re officially on Georgia-watch. There’s a new regular grand jury, the type that indicts cases, showing up to work in Fulton County this week. So it’s entirely possible that this could be the week to expect the world to turn upside down.” https://joycevance.substack.com/p/the-week-ahead-295

@Teri_Kanefield Have you explained how sealed indictments work? For example, is it possible for prosecutors to unseal indictments in different states and/or at the federal level at the same time in a coordinated manner?

@Teri_Kanefield I understand. But if the cases are related as the Georgia investigation and the Special Counsels investigation can be maybe it makes sense.

@Teri_Kanefield @TruthSandwich This clarification also makes clear the need for independent courts and judges.
