@damon @malakai at first I thought the examples of servers defederating were exaggerations, but I'm pretty concerned now with some of what I have seen. There is no way the #Fediverse is sustainable with a bunch of private fiefdoms. Picking a decentralized platform and then centralizing so you end up only talking to a very small subset of people doesn't really seem like a good fit for the technology.

@damon @malakai No, it wasn't an exaggeration at all. If anything, what I had heard was downplaying how bad things were. Personally, I love the #Fediverse and this is about the only social media I use, I support the instance I joined through Patreon and am happy to contribute. Choice is the best feature here in my opinion.

@BrodieOnLinux It wasn’t that long ago I saw a Reddit comment thread of people who always gave their user account straight up root access saying they couldn’t be bothered to use sudo and they were the only one who used the system. It’s the Dunning–Kruger effect, where someone thinks because they use Arch or a command line that they’re basically a Linux expert now.
