@kev I like it. I was trying to figure out which protocol would best fit a server I plan to setup for a CSA community in my area to connect farmers with consumers. The groups feature would be great to help neighbors coordinate pickups.

@thenewoil Although I love the company and want to support them, other prepaid burner SIM's are much cheaper. I paid $180 for a year of Mint Mobile at 4GB a month. I hardly use it since I use VOIP.ms and rarely go off airplane mode when on the go. No matter who you buy your SIM card from, the telcos who own the network can do location analysis from cell tower triangulation.

@thenewoil Sorry I have never seen any real privacy preserving technology actually work. It is the same old argument we have heard over and over again to fool us. I don't even want to give the government and its partners anonymous or aggregate data as I don't trust what they will do with it. Control and finding ways to dispossess and funnel to the powerful is what they do. The less they know, the more power we have.

@thenewoil Yes the foundation is in the UK. If you have an account on matrix.org, it could be affected.I am unclear how the gov could affect the protocol and its many implementations and instances. I am running my own instance at my house using Conduit implementation. Someone would have to come to my house with a search warrant.

@PublicLewdness @thenewoil That is right. The foundation in the UK runs matrix.org server and another runs vector nameserver. You or somebody can run your own homeserver and even your own nameserver. In practice, Matrix has not been very decentralized with so many people using matrix.org server, but I think that is improving. XMPP is much more decentralized in practice with thousands of servers out there. I encourage you to run either/both using yunohost.org.
