@ParadeGrotesque \1. Not necessarily, but use of encryption will likely become an "offense enhancement" to other crimes. So, 5 years for protesting, 15 for doing it with an encrypted phone. Jurisprudence exists for this, see Patriot Act by Biden.\2. Shouldn't now. Think of Lavar Ledison.\3. What countries would take any American refugees now, for reasons like this or similar?\4. He will likely ally with China against Europe, and use Chinese software vs USians.

Can someone explain doas and redirects to me? I'm feeling teh dumb.doas cat /etc/fstab > /var/bkp/restore.2results in a cannot create file error, though the file exists. After reading the doas man, and doas.conf man, I'm still not seeing what I'm missing. Running:doas cat /etc/fstab | moreworks just fine. Should I be switching to root to handle commands like this?

I love it when people in government 'take a stand' by quitting. "Hey, here, let me just get out of your way, sorry I'm an inconvenience to your evil plans."I would think that taking a stand would be refusing to leave the job, making a point of documenting exactly why there is a problem, and doing that publicly if necessary. Make a lot of noise, even when they are pulling you out across the threshold of the building.

Folks, in that rarefied sliver of the world population that use OpenBSD and Mutt or NeoMutt- which one, and which package flavor?

If github was standing up for developers, it would have told RIAA to eff off while coming up with a better policy framework to deal with bogus DMCA claims.Instead, github cancelled a project with no notice, and it took thousands of pissed off developers to change github's mind.Nothing would have been done in the absence of blowback. That is not in any sense "standing up for devs".Suggestion- maybe move code to any other code hosting platform anyways.

@yojimbo Huh. It seems a bit small. I really like the idea of being able to visibly switch layouts, and it seems from their presentation that I could do that with presets. Which would be nice for some console based stuff.

Please boost:I'm looking for information about a curses based networked office application suite sold by Unisys in 1988-89. I administrated it in a legal office, and found it to be superior to anything else I've used. But I've forgotten the name of it. I want to know more about it. More importantly, I want to build a modern equivalent.

Recycled #IntroductionStay at home dad with an interest in #OpenBSD, indoor #gardening, and Latin American food. Most ills in my life can be cured with chocolate.I have a #trans son, who is in an art & tech program. Family stuff revolves around art, education, and #tacos. What doesn't become art or tacos, becomes stir fry. Its a rule.I'm also into completing #BucketList tasks. I have long believed it is better to do poorly than never have tried at all.

If you have to take your laptop through an inspection checkpoint, consider running a USB bootable OS like Tails and leaving your encrypted laptop drive locked closed.I mean, you could rsync your homedir via ssh before passing through a checkpoint, delete that user/shred the files, use a travel acct, then restore user and homedir when past the checkpoints. This is considering https://xkcd.com/538/ , and Ace has pipe wrenches for $2.50. Nobody likes a dual wielding TSA goon.

@thegibson God, as long as someone doesn't float mandating ActivityPub access as a way of mitigating FB's monopoly. All that means is FB will flood ActivityPub's ecosystem with engineers and money, embrace, extend, then extinguish.

@thegibson Nobody is going to ask the obvious question. They are going to pose a lot of blame under answering why, without really working through the day by day, hour by hour of how.How does someone make a rational choice to spend days if not weeks building something to burn themselves to death in? Especially in a harm phobic society like the US?Even if someone is an "incel", that isn't enough to explain it. Put yourself in their seat first. Every day, building this thing.

@thegibson Oh, dude, there were bombs confiscated. Which means that if people had time for that, they definitely had time for disk pulls.Today was a banner day for any small nation states to get in there and fuck around. D.C. police said 13 people had been arrested and five weapons were recovered along with two explosive devices.
