@reuters_worldnews Saudi Arabia is a medieval kingdom that has been nourished by US and EU protectionism politically, and by petrodollars financially.Hence their brutal dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi (a Washington Post reporter) in their Turkish embassy, and the deplorable treatment of their citizens. We need to stop supporting and enabling this archaic regime!

@fitheach I want to like this geocoder, but its formatting addresses really oddly (eg: 2318 E Cherry St, Seattle, WA, 98122, USA is formatted as East Cherry Street 2318, 98122, Central Area, Seattle, King County, Washington, United States) and I can't view the routing after entering in two addresses in Firefox for Android. One other nit, is there any way to set the starting addess as your current GPS location?

@tA @wizard @sydia Docker is very similar to classic OpenVZ, just with fewer security guarantees as it is designed for an environment where your containers are relatively trustworthy, rather than each container being a potential abuser.Containers can also be kinda funky, insofar as your container can use more RAM than the container supposedly has. Many of the benefits of classic containers have migrated into KVM, eg: KVM ballooning

@wizard @tA +1, Syncthing is great. I've also heard BorgBackup is good.Nextcloud makes sense as a communal service for yourself and others. It is a broad replacement for GSuite, Office 365, Dropbox, Skype and similar, rather than a singularly focused tool that does one thing well. For interacting with non-technical people Nextcloud Talk and public shared folders is super handy (can give a person a link and they can click on it and chat with you/a group of people, same for shared folders).

@wizard @tA Yea, @the_gayest_doggo used BorgBackup for quite some time, but decided to move everything to Nextcloud since they were already running an instance. I'm in the process of upgrading the KVM node its on, am picking up the 2nd hard drive for a mirrored array shortly :PStill need to come up with a coherent offsite backup strategy...

@amic I get this every time I order from AliExpress, and I even order it to Seattle, Oregon, 98109! It still shows up in Seattle, Washington in 2 to 5 weeks, at which point I get to celebrate Chinese Christmas :DChinese Christmas is when a parcel from China shows up after a lengthy delay. You've probably forgotten what you ordered, but suddenly this parcel appears, wrapped tightly and ready to be opened like a present, with its delivery celebrated once you remember why you ordered it...

@tA This website is a reflection of what I feel every time I'm a pedestrian in SoCal.Crossing the road is taking your life in your own hands, public transit is built for park and rides or lifeline bus service (1 hour headings at rush hour only, no dedicated bus lanes, no one besides those who can't drive use it).SoCal needs to allow housing to be built in the same areas as office parks, otherwise it will continue to have dead office park land and hellish commutes from suburbia.

@strypey Just text, they are working on media support (which, once again your phone is very vulnerable to infection through via the Stagefright bug). There is no libsignal or similar, so building bots, alternative clients, etc is not very approachable
