@cy People also train pit bulls and other scary dogs to be aggressive towards other people. I've seen them doing it.They want to have an attack dog, for personal and household protection, and/or to feel more powerful.@ThreeOneThreeChris @Simpadoo @judgedread

@yaaps @cwebber @dankwraith One possibly interesting angle: I've been reading the history of the Actor model as used by AP (I think also thanks to @cwebber ).In https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a052266.pdf they say it was influenced by Smalltalk, which is a messaging pattern combined with objects (objects sending messages to each other was the whole system), and then OOP in the form of Java, C++, C#, etc, took it away from that pattern.

@yaaps There's a lot of evidence for some version of what you wrote. In my aborted college "career", around 1960, I lied my way into a graduate course in Donald Hebb's "The Organization of Behavior", which you can read a lot about here: https://molecularbrain.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13041-020-00567-8The patterns your mind detects get physically implemented in patterns of brain firing, first in small cell assemblies, later in large phase sequences that travel in waves.(And yes, your mind is the same as the cell assemblies and phase sequences and their larger effects through your nervous system and behavior. So yeah, it's recursive.)Addiction is the constant repetition of a sequence, especially if it involves chemical as well as sensory signals. If the sequence starts and cannot complete, you will feel varying degrees of discomfort. Worse if the chemical signals are missing.@bhaugen

@yaaps Thanks Yaaps and Zelei!VF gang, we think about and use this idea:> turning observation into knowledge is also part of the gameConversations for Action has an evaluation phase where improvements for the next time should be part of the convo. And we have some people wanting to convert results back into knowledge captured in recipes for future plans. But we haven't done any of that yet.@mayel @bhaugen @lynn @ivan Yaaps, did some of the tools to capture game data turn it back into something that was active, as in, used to plan the next game or stage of game play? If so, it would be interesting to look at some details, if available.

@yaaps @lynn @bhaugen @mayel @ivan One thing about valueflows is the data is designed to provide food for several kinds of analyses, eg.https://valueflo.ws/introduction/estimates.htmlhttps://valueflo.ws/introduction/accounting.htmlhttps://valueflo.ws/appendix/overview.htmlSo for games, should be possible to provide overviews and analyses of battles, campaigns, territories, theaters, etc.

Returning to this thread:"This is a great time to normalize the promotion of character and setting development over conflict as player roles realign."Agreed, but without full understanding.Got an example or two of how that would work in a game?@yaaps @mayel @bhaugen @lynn

@yaaps VF/REA has three parallel levels - Recipe, Plan, and Observation (aka reality), that are all interconnected as you can see in the diagrams here:https://valueflo.ws/introduction/processes.htmlFlows are represented in all three levels where the type of a process output matches the type of a process input. The flows are not necessarily linear: a process can have more than one output and parts of a resource can go into more than one process. On the observation level, the flows are represented by events. On the other levels, by other precursors of events (a recipe event is the representation of an event that could happen, and a planned event is an event that is (duh) planned to happen). Those flows can also traverse more than one agent. So if we have agent-centric pubs, they can traverse more than one pub.Is pathological?@bhaugen

@yaaps Nice overview! "You also want to make the setup work of identifying processes and creating recipes reproducible, "And we do."which is pretty challenging because nobody really wants to develop metatooling"We want metatooling! This is not exactly the same, but we (and the open source hardware association) want recipes (which they don't call recipes) to live in repos like code and be evolvable and forkable.@bhaugen

@yaaps What mutual credit systems usually do is start with a simple and optional taxonomy and add tags. Beyond that, all the resources are described by text. This works fine until they want to do some distributed production or something like that.@haitch @bhaugen
