@jquillinI love the stylishly casual vibe of a model sauntering down the catwalk in a suit with her hands in her pockets.

@jquillin Snakeskin coats look incredibly glamorous yet badass. It's a prominent look for one of the two main characters of my novel.

@jquillin A Jungian supernatural novel based around a fictional occult subculture in Victoria, BC. The protagonist is the self-proclaimed guardian of the city, who worships the city's spirit as his personal god. He has a complicated adversarial relationship with a glamorous genderfluid cult leader who loves to take on different personas through various costumes. As the cult leader is linked to both panthers and serpents, their costumes often evoke those creatures.

@jquillin Thanks! Yeah, world-building is my favourite part of creating a fantasy story, and it was fascinating to figure out what particular outfits the particular cults wore. It's what got me really into couture, especially designers who have been really inspired by folklore and surrealism, such as Mugler, Guo Pei, and Schiaparelli.#Mugler #GuoPei #Schiaparelli

@jquillin There is something incredibly luxurious and regal about a thick furry collar. I guess it evokes a lion's mane, or in some contexts a cobra's hood.

@jquillin I adore Schiaparelli and dapper suits with pockets for the more dapper models, so it's a match made in Heaven.

Many old buildings in Europe, both secular and ecclesiastical, have carved on their wall a face made of leaves or vomiting vegetation, called a "Green Man." No one is sure how this design began, but many assume it was originally a pagan god.#FaustianFriday #Superstitiology #folklore #mythology #architecture

@jquillin @CynthiaA Stylishly surreal. I could see a glamorous spy wearing it in an old 60s psychedelic spy show.

In Welsh legend, the Arthurian warrior Owain ap Urien was served by the Ravens of Kenverchyn, a flock of 300 ravens that could grow to gigantic size and tear apart Owain's enemies. Owain had a general affinity for animals, as he was also served by a black lion.#ofdarkandmacabre #KingArthur #Arthuriana #folklore #legends #Wales

@LizardSF @GayDeceiver Ironically, it's sometimes the more progressive stories that don't age as well. An old comic book trying to deal frankly with social issues frequently has more wincing moments than one that just ignores them.

The Devil's Bridge in Ceredigion, Wales is actually three stacked bridges. Supposedly, the ravine was too steep for mortal architecture, so the Devil built the first bridge in return for the soul of the first being to cross. The people tricked the Devil by having a dog cross first.#FolkloreSunday #Superstitiology #folklore #legend #Devil #Celtic #Wales

Surprisingly, it was not King Arthur's sword that was one of the 13 Treasures of Britain in Welsh legend, but instead his cloak Gwenn. This silk cloak was white as snow and had a reddish-gold apple sewn at each of its corners. It could turn King Arthur invisible.🎨Rubin Eynon#FolkloreSunday #mythology #folklore #Wales #Cornwall #KingArthur #Arthuriana

In Welsh folklore, the border between worlds is often vague. Arthurian knights don't realize they've ridden into the Otherworld until they encounter progressively stranger things, such as one-legged giants or sheep that change colour when leaping across a river. #FaustianFriday #FairyFriday #folklore #mythology #Celtic #Wales

The huldufólk (hidden folk) of Iceland are human-sized fairies who dress in gray and inhabit the hills. Sometimes they are depicted with cow tails. It is said that if the huldufólk marry a human, their cow tails fall off, and they become human themselves.🎨 Brett Manning#LegendaryWednesday
