@quad @steph The most I can see anyone ever using is 4: balanced, wide angle, zoom, and large aperture. Even then, the balanced one could probably be derived just fine from the other three using software.

@quad @steph Oh, lots of editing software can do that already. It's called lens correction.I'm assuming it just uses OpenGL to make a ball (an ellipse depending on the aspect ratio) and then wrap the image on it as a texture. The proportion of the ball that the image covers would determine the strength of the effect.

@quad @steph Yeah, it would. The lens in the camera will always distort in some constant direction by some constant magnitude for any given physical point on the surface of the glass. Therefore, regardless of image content, the light ray density will have a constant (though not uniform) distribution across the image sensor's surface. If you know what that distribution is, you can always undo it.
