@NeonPurpleStar @volpeon @beebles If you think about it, it's peak capitalism. Most businesses fail, so failing as quickly as possible is optimal, especially when you already have vast reserves of capital.

@foone Nobody knows when to write a library, when to write a CLI, when to write a GUI, when to provide a network service, or when to provide a website. It is a goddamn mystery, and no matter what is chosen, what is written will always suck.

@foone Every year, USB controllers seem to get less and less resilient with respect to the older protocols.

@foone Cursed idea: one of those adapters for the cassette player in '80s/'90s cars with them, except for a floppy drive.

@foone When you run the master executable of recent versions of the Dovecot (IMAP, etc.) server, it immediately exec()s the helper CLI program responsible for parsing the configuration file(s) with a special format flag and an (undocumented) argument pointing back to the master executable, compiles the parsed configuration into its in-memory representation and saves it to a file in /var/run or /run, then re-runs the master executable with an (undocumented) environment variable which indicates which file descriptor represents this binary file. Only then does it start spawning configured subprocesses to begin normal service.

@foone This could have been a laptop with a built-in cassette tape deck.
