Day 4: After yesterday, we decided we needed to re-plan our route. The rest of the trails would be better maintained, but we wanted to reach certain points, so we needed to focus on those. We would leave out the highest point in our route (Karitinden), but therefore go to the especially rugged valley of the Danskehytta. We had breakfast outside and that was the firs time we saw the Vakkerstøylen hut in daylight. What a pretty one. We had to cross the lake by boat. At the pass to Pyttbua hut we came across the most clear lake you can image (nice cold drinking water). The descent to the hut made it a nice afternoon hike, so we could recover.#Hiking #WeeklyHikingPicture #Norway #dTdT2022

Day 5: A beautiful sunrise marked the start of another day in this amazing environment. Every time we spoke with Norwegians, they told us we were extremely lucky to have this kind of weather, because the summer of 2022 was particularly bad. Our trip in September basically fell in the only two weeks with good weather. From a tundra-like valley today we would hike into a more green valley. It was an easy and not too long hike. We showered under the waterfall near the Reindalseter hut, the flagship of huts in this area. Because we were out of the normal season, there were not many people there.Nice impression video:https://vimeo.com/361012062#Hiking #WeeklyHikingPicture #Norway #dTdT2022

Today was a stunning day. I was in luck that beautiful late summer weather coincided with a day off. Have been saving this local classic Gurnigel - Gantrisch - Stockhorn for quite some time, and today was the day. It did not disappoint. At first I was a bit anxious though, as no less than 2 full busses drove to the start. Would this be a traffic jam hike? I should not have worried, as I was the only one hiking the route. All the others disappeared into different directions. The trail to the Gantrisch was easy and shortly before it, I came onto the ridge. I would be on ridges lots of times. One ridge was becoming only 30 cm wide and after checking, it showed I missed a turn (it would be possible though, but as I was alone, I turned around out of safety reasons and found the correct trail). After an easy climb to Chatz u Mus the final Stockhorn climb came into sight. After summitting I descended by cablecar. What-a-day!#Hiking #WeeklyHikingPicture #Stockhorn #Gantrisch #Gurnigel

Currently the media files for mountains.social are stored in an S3 bucket at Linode. There was some instability a while ago at their side, so started to look around for alternatives. Linode solved the instability issues, so I put a storage migration aside for the time being. The amount of storage however is ofcourse increasing (250 GB comes in sight). Linode charges a fixed fee until 250 GB and starts charging more after that. I'm not a fan of variable (read: unpredictable) bills, so I'm currently in the process of migration to Wasabi (fixed price for 1 TB storage).5.39 USD at Linode for 250 GB, 6.99 USD at Wasabi for 1 TB.The initial copy of the storage is running now. After the copy I will switch the storage in the Mastodon configuration and start migration the delta as well. There will be some short outages later today, not sure exactly when as this depends on the storage copy. Will update as I go along.#MountainsSocialMastoAdmin

I perform the migration via flexify.io, which is really convenient. You get 20 USD start balance. The current migration is estimated at around 5.70 USD, so basically a free service which regards to this migration.

OK, seems to work, thanks for the acknowledgment 🙌 Am now starting the delta copy (the media that got written to the old storage since the start of the initial copy job).Until that finishes some media might be missing for you. Please be patient in that case. Catching up.

View from the Schibespitz (2'060m) towards the Gantrisch (2'176m), Bernese Alps. It is part of the so-called "Voralpen", the most northern part of the Alps. The flatter part of Switzerland is clearly visible.https://s.geo.admin.ch/a2f30e5be1#MountainMonday #Hiking #WeeklyHikingPicture #Gantrisch #Alps

Still did not have the opportunity to really go out into the mountains, but did manage to go on a small hike on Bürgberg. From there you have a nice view on Faulensee and the Bernese Oberland.#Hiking #WeeklyHikingPicture #Faulensee #Niesen #BernerOberland #BerneseOberland #SBB

On mountains.social every day is a mountain day. But today it is a really special one, as it is International Mountain Day. And this year it even falls on #MountainMonday!"December 11, "International Mountain Day", was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2003. The General Assembly "encouraged the international community to organize events at all levels on that day to highlight the importance of sustainable mountain development."https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_Dayhttps://www.un.org/en/observances/mountain-dayAs December is the month where all kinds of sites are sending their "Wrapped" of the year, I thought International Mountain Monday was a fine occasion to introduce #MountainsWrapped2023.Below are my four pictures which have special memories from the mountains in 2023. Read the alt-text for more information on them. What is your #MountainsWrapped2023?#MountainMonday #MountainsWrapped #MountainsWrapped2023 #Hiking #Mountaineering #Climbing #Bouldering #Mountains #InternationalMountainDay

Since mountains.social exists for 1 year or 365 days, let me bring you the story of the 1'365 meter high Halti mountain. Halti is a fell at the border between Norway and Finland. The peak is in Norway, about one kilometer north of the border with Finland. The highest point of the fell on the Finnish side is at 1'324 m above sea level, and thus the highest point in the country. In 2015, a group of Norwegians began a campaign to give the peak of Halti to Finland for its centenary in 2017 by moving the border between the two countries by 200 m. The idea gained substantial public support in both countries, and in July 2016 it was reported that the Prime Minister of Norway was seriously considering ceding the peak. Norway ultimately chose not to move the border, citing the Norwegian constitution's definition of the country as an "indivisible and inalienable" realm.A shame, who doesn't want a mountain as a birthday gift.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/oct/15/halti-plan-halted-norway-will-not-gift-mountain-top-to-neighbour-finland#Mountains #Halti #Norway #Finland

Today one of my team member waved goodbye as she goes into retirement. Instead of the usual fareware drink she invited us for breakfast at the Rosengarten Restaurant overlooking the city center of Bern. It was very nice and it really suited her to do it this way. And the perfect spot for it as it is #FensterFreitag.#Rosengarten #Bern #WindowFriday #FensterFriday
