@Supes is federation with gab.com actually working? I'm trying to follow someone from gab and it says awaiting approval.

@Supes looks like maybe gab is just having trouble, maybe they didn't plan for the remote traffic they'd get. my follow request eventually went through so I guess mastodon just says it's waiting approval while it's pending remote confirmation.I do find it annoying that the fork they're running seems make it harder to find information without a gab account (looking at who someone follows is useful to find new people to follow). Also no links to remote follow 😦

@angristan @SupesThis is why I want to see Mastodon support shared blocklists and admins use that. Instance blocks should be transparent to users. Also many instance blocks could be avoided if users could subscribe to "no porn" or "no right wing" blocklists.

@Supes @angristan I disagree with instance level blocks and think they should be opt-in (or at minimum opt-out). but transparency let potential users look at the blocklist before joining an instance and say "no they're too controlling".

@stevesmithIt's disappointing that the gab fork means these performance fixes are unlikely to be merged back to other Mastodon instances. I understand gab is running a business and for all I know the Mastodon project might reject patches from gab on "principle". In any case I hope we eventually see some level of cooperation on the software development.@Supes

@joeyb333 @PresidentTrump2020 the existing larger free speech mastodon instances were probably blocked by most of the fediverse long before gab joined, so it was already split. It seems Fedilab has been mass reported, the free version was removed from Google Play (can still get it through f-droid).A bug has been opened requesting that the mastodon software have a hardcoded block against gab https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/11129 - no definitive response from maintainers there.

@SupesNot even close, it will never calm down. We'll stop seeing it when the SJW's completely quarantine themselves, though they'll still harass app developers to block gab.

@Supes I've picked up your sarcasm and feel incredibly triggered by it. I've reported you to your instance admin 😆

@Texas_Infidel I hope gab users with the means create their own instances on the fediverse. we need thousands of free speech instances, this would raise the burden of censorship.

@UltraCommie @Texas_Infidel @p I commend the admins of freespeechextremist but that's one instance (a good part of the start). I'm advocating for mass decentralization of free speech.

@TImW381The instance I'm on does not block gab and my account isn't set to require approval for followers, must be something technical preventing it from working right. Maybe cancel the follow and try again is all I can guess.@TraditionalistVeteran @a @support @Supes

@ChrisWilson @UltraCommie @rcode3 @snder @Supes Depends on who is doing the silencing or banning. Once politicians are on fediverse I think they should never ban, only silence. I'm OK with them saying "I never want to see your responses", not OK with "I never want anyone else to see your responses". Unless I misunderstand how silencing works on mastodon?

@Maximex @pachyderm @a @robcolbert @Millwood16 anyone can run an f-droid repository. might be able to publish open source apps to the official f-droid repository assuming they apps can talk to open source servers. for gab specific apps they would probably be flagged with anti-feature like youtube / twitter apps do (connecting to proprietary services).

Anyone know of a list of free speech mastodon instances? I want to see the people I follow on Twitter go to multiple instances to defend against future censorship. @Supes

@Supes I wasn't expecting you would censor, more just want to point people to a bunch of servers so no instance becomes a big enough target to get Parler'd

@ChrisWilson @Supes I terminated my AWS server a couple days ago. Was a small server so they weren't making much but every little bit counts.
